“Players should have a choice” David Moyes reacted over New “Covid Vaccine Passport”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced a new “Covid Plan B” to fight the ongoing Omicron variant which is slowly making its way into the country. From 15th December Premier League Fans have to show a “Vaccine Passport” to enter the stadium.
So what exactly does this Vaccine Passport mean?
If fans want to attend a Premier League game, they must now either show proof of double vaccination through the NHS Covid app or proof of a negative lateral flow test taken inside the previous 48 hours.
When these rules are getting applied?
The new rules are coming into action on Wednesday, December 15, which means the four Premier League games taking place that evening – Brighton vs Wolves, Burnley vs Watford, Crystal Palace vs Southampton, and Arsenal vs West Ham – will be the first at which the “Vaccine Passport” is applied.
Is the Vaccine Passport Mandatory?
Across the Premier League, there are some rising concerns regarding players who are not double vaccinated may fall under the grab of the new tighter guidelines regarding the new Vaccine Passport. However, the government guidelines suggest that unvaccinated players should only have to test negative in order to be allowed to play, club chiefs are concerned that there could be tougher restrictions.
West Ham boss David Moyes on the new guidelines: “I know that people have a right to make their own choices and I respect that.
“But I actually think it’s something now which we would seriously have to consider because if I was a supporter, I really would want to go to a game next to someone who I knew had been vaccinated.”
Moyes on Player’s Vaccination
He further added: “We talk so much about diversity. If we want diversity, players should have a choice about whether to take the injection or not. We have to respect everyone.”
For clarity, David Moyes also said: “We’re getting a lot of boosters. We have some players not taken 1st injection who we think may take it this weekend. We’ve some doctors + nurses coming to help us. Really important we can try and get as many vaccinated as we can.”
Clubs are braced from a backlash and potential issues from fans who are told they cannot take up seats they have paid for without proof of double vaccination or immune status.
