Davis Thompson won his first career tournament on Sunday at the John Deere Classic 2024. Thompson shot -28 to claim victory, earning $1,440,000 as the winner’s share.
Thompson went emotional after winning the tournament. During an interview with CBS Sports post-game, reporter Amanda Balionis asked him his source of emotion. In response, Thompson referred to his wife, Holly Grace.
Just seeing my wife means a lot. I just love her so much and I'm so thankful she was able to make it. Just tried to stay present all day and went it finally went in, just a sign of relief. It's great, I've been working hard this year, it was ok for a while and I kinda got going this month, played well last week and kinda kept it rolling this week and was able to get the win.Davis Thompson said

Michael Thorbjornsen and Luke Clanton stayed tied for 2nd position after shooting -24. However, Clanton ended up without getting any paycheck as he is an amateur. Meanwhile, Thorbjornsen got $712,000 for being in the 2nd rank.
Davis Thompson’s original goal was PGA Tour victory
Thompson’s outstanding performance included a seven-under-par 64 in the final round, which helped him win by four strokes at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
Thompson’s outstanding performance was capped by a scorching start, as he birdied five of the first six holes. His 72-hole score of 28-under 256 broke the previous event record of 27-under, achieved by Michael Kim in 2018.
Thompson won his first PGA event after appearing in 63 other events. This victory follows his second-place performance the previous week in Detroit, another runner-up finish in May in Myrtle Beach, and a similar conclusion last year in the California desert.
Thompson and C.T. Pan of Taiwan are the two highest-ranked players who have not previously qualified for the coveted 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon.
Qualifying for the Open was just an added incentive into this. The goal was to win the golf tournament after getting here this week and I got off to a great start and was able to finish it off.

Thompson is using the same bedroom that Sepp Straka, the 2023 John Deere champion, used the previous year. This has made the suite being labeled the ‘Champions House‘!
