Three times Daytona 500 champion Denny Hamlin had to wait till the 22nd race week of the 2025 season to go to the victory lane as a race winner. Bubba Wallace secured 23XI Racing maiden win of the season. Ironically it came in an event where the veteran desperately wants to win, making him realize some brutal aspects of the sport.
In a latest interaction with the media, Denny Hamlin addressed his driver Bubba Wallace’s 100 race winless streak before the Indy win. He explained that the TRD driver survived the chaos by compartmentalizing positives and negatives. Though it’s a tough life to live, as according to Hamlin even for a Hall of Famer 95% of races will be losing battles.
It seemed like on the bad days he was able to compartmentalize that and then think about the positives versus everything sucks all the time. That’s a tough way to live…We’re in a business where if you can win 5 percent of the time, you’re a Hall of Famer. You’re going to lose.

He pointed out that NASCAR racing is more of losing business than winning business. So, in order to stay motivated, the racers, alongside the crew, has to find ways to achieve small victories even in races they are losing. It’s the words of wisdom he got from ex-JGR crew chief Mike Ford, in his early years and he still cherishes it.
This is a losing business, and you have to find happiness in some other way other than actually winning. Mike Ford told me that early in my career, and that was the best advice I’ve ever been given.
Denny Hamlin added.
So, he advised the No:23 Toyota Camry driver that every race week he has to set small goals to achieve alongside winning the race, as the challenges Cup weekends offers is pretty hard to survive. Wallace has been able to follow the advice for the last one year, and that has definitely earned him huge results.
It’s something that certainly needed to be told to Bubba that you’ve got to find these little goals that you feel good about because it’s tough out there. It’s up to you to put in the work and it’s up to you to want it and then let your abilities go from there. It just seems over the last 12 months the performance is definitely better.
Denny Hamlin asserted.
Denny Hamlin analyzes his short at winning 2025 regular season title
In the latest episode of his podcast, Denny Hamlin, who has won four races this season, shared his thoughts on potentially winning the regular season championship. With four more races left before playoffs, he finds himself 20 points behind leader Chase Elliott, at P4 with William Byron and Kyle Larson in the spots ahead of him.

It is going to be tough for him to battle it out against the Hendrick Motorsports trio, but expects a close battle at Daytona. He will surely need some luck with Watkins Glen Road course arcing being his biggest challenge.
It’s going to be close. I mean, it is what it is. I spotted these boys a race. I think it’ll be difficult. Iowa, Daytona, Watkins Glen … I need to hold serve at Watkins Glen. It’s still I mean I’m behind, not ahead. So, I’m probably going to need a little bit of help, but yeah, we’ll see.
Denny Hamlin said.
The comments from the veteran, shows he is in the fight, knowing its going to be tough battle, and is determined to produce his best to earn the playoff advantage. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the No:11 team as well as his 23XI Racing drivers.
