23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace was given a hefty $50,000 fine for door slamming Alex Bowman during the cool-down lap of the Chicago Street race. The Toyota driver was getting his revenge for an early race incident featuring the two that ruined the race for the No:23 team. The penalty was given despite the driver getting support from the race winner Bowman and many others in the community.
The co-owner 23XI Racing, Denny Hamlin, in the recent episode of the Action Detrimental podcast talked about the fine. He doesn’t think NASCAR fined his driver because of how bad the issue was, instead he reckons it was reviewed because it occurred during the live coverage and got a lot of backlash on social media.

NASCAR made probably the only call that they could. NASCAR really reacts to what people say on social media a lot. They do. And so, when this was under a microscope and again, I firmly believe he got fined because it was on TV, and he [Bowman] was the race winner. … They bumped each other, it wasn’t hard, but these things happen on a weekly basis. It just happened to be Alex showing him right there on live TV, here comes Bubba and he punches him right into the wall.Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.
Regardless of the reason, NASCAR now has set a new president they should be following for the future incidents. Bubba Wallace was actually okay with the massive fine he received and admitted that it was a reality check he really needed, as he was having an anger issue that he wasn’t proud of for a long time.
Denny Hamlin explains why 23XI Racing won’t appeal the decision
The star driver pointed out that 23XI Racing will not be appealing the decision and doesn’t think there is a need to drag the dram own. He admitted that it was a mistake from his driver, so they will learn from and move on.

Why drag this on? Let it go. You learn from the mistake, and it was a mistake. (Wallace) shouldn’t have done it, and you just move on.Denny Hamlin said.
23XI Racing and everyone in the team seems to have accepted the fine and is ready to move on. With a good run last Sunday at Pocono, they have put-themselves back in the conversation for playoffs and will be focussing on getting it done for Bubba Wallace.
