The 2024 season is the final full-time season Martin Truex Jr. will have in his racing career as he has announced his retirement at the end of the season at Iowa. But his farewell year hasn’t been the one he dreamed of, as with just five more races left in the regular season, he has secured a Cup race victory.
Coming into this weekend’s race at Pocono, Martin Truex Jr. was one of the drivers many wagered on to win. But his challenge ended in a P8 finish, not helping him much in the points table as his consistency has earned him enough to remain at the top on no-race winners in the playoff bubble. But a win could have made a massive difference for him.

The desperation and disappointment over the underperforming Toyota Camry he had compared to his teammate Denny Hamlin was clearly visible at Pocono. Truex Jr. is considered one of the calmest guys behind the wheels, but he was heard ranting on his team radio because of the No:19 Camry’s lack of pace in the straightaways.
This thing is so f*cking slow on the straightaway… Junk. F*cking junk.Martin Truex Jr. said on team radio.

Martin Truex Jr. responds to Pocono Raceway’s’ special tribute for him
To honour the legacy of the JGR veteran and to celebrate his retirement, the Pocono race way painted Truex Jr. on the start-finish at the track for the race. Talking about the before the event, he admitted that it feels really special for him and his family to see the track’s wholesome gesture.
I’d say I’m ready to embrace it. I was actually surprised at seeing that two days ago and you know, as a driver, I’ve been around, and you just don’t ever feel like you’re deserving of things like that. For Pocono to do that, for the speedway to do that is very special. I think it means a lot to me and my family.Martin Truex Jr. said.
He hoped to cross the finish line first but wasn’t able to do that. He would now be hoping to secure at least a win with 10 more races left in the season, if he can’t be in the fight for the championship and not to have a farewell season like Kevin Harvick who ended career with a winless season in 2023.
