The NASCAR charter wars has taken the legal route after a yearlong uncertainty, with 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports filing a federal anti-trust lawsuit. The lawsuit deems NASCAR as monopolist bully, who forced the teams to sign an unfair deal of 100 pages with just a 48 notice and not room for negotiations.
Michael Jordan and Bob Jenkins teams has appointed infamous anti-trust lawyer Jeffrey Kessler to lead their legal fight that will either help the teams thrive or will force them exit the sport. The co-owner of 23XI Racing, Denny Hamlin, who is also the driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, has given his verdict on the decision to sue NASCAR and France family.
He admitted to never understating how unfair the sports’ system was before re-investing his hard-earned money into the sport. Hamlin never expected NASCAR to make the powerplay regarding the charter and sees it as unfair. NASCAR pushed these teams to the limit with the negotiations and they are now fighting back.
Bob Jenkins calls NASCAR’s strategy divide and conquer
Being in the sport for nearly two decades, Bob Jenkins knows the power NASCAR holds, and he described how they convinced the 13 teams to sign the deal. They negotiated with teams individually after initial failures, dealing with the council of all the teams. Jenkins sees this as a divide and conquer strategy which they successfully employed.
The comments from Jenkins showed how NASCAR played its cards right to make the 13 teams to sign the new deal and the difference in demands of these teams to that of 23XI and FRM. It will be interesting to see how the legal war will playout and who it’s going to hurt the most.
