Team Penske Racing’s Joey Logano itched his name in NASCAR history after winning the 2022 Cup title, making him the first champion in the Next-Gen era. Coming into the 2023 season, he was confident he could defend his title. But things didn’t go as planned as he was knocked out early in the playoff while his teammate Ryan Blaney went on to win the championship.

He secured just a single win last year that too at Atlanta, a superspeedway-ish track. Logano and the No:22 team were super inconsistent. Towards the latter half of the season, he often finishes either at the front or back. While his teammate Blaney peaked at the end of the season, Logano, who got eliminated simultaneously, worked on testing multiple updates made to the car for 2024.

According to the latest prediction made by Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin, these tests might come to fruition. He pointed out that 2024 might see the two-time cup champion’s resurgence. Hamlin highlighted the good race the Penske Racing driver had at the LA Clash that was won by him.

Joey probably didn’t love this podcast, but I gave him props last week. I do believe this is a — this could be a big Joey Logano resurgence year. I mean, he was in contention to win (The Clash), or had a chance to win. He wasn’t the best car, the No. 54 was. But I am, I am going to be fair, and I believe Joey’s in for a big year.
Hamlin said via the Action Detrimental podcast.

Denny Hamlin won the LA Clash because of Joey Logano

Logano, Hamlin, and JGR youngster Ty Gibbs had the fastest cars of the day at the LA Clash and were the three drivers who were in contention for the race win. Logano and Gibbs had the advantage in the last ten laps of the race as they fought for the lead while Hamlin played catch-up.

Luck wasn’t on the side of the leading, duo as with ten laps left, Gibbs used Logano up on a corner and sent him to the wall, ruining both of their races. Hamlin took the lead when the leaders went deep into the corner.

After the race, an angry Logano confronted young Gibbs and had a heated confrontation. The drama continued after the confrontation via media, where both too shot at each other. It seemed to develop into one of the most interesting storylines the 2024 season has to offer.
