The controversies over Kyle Busch–Ricky Stenhouse Jr. clash from North Wilkesboro isn’t over yet. The discussion has now shifted from the post0race fight to the RCR veteran not getting penalized for his retaliation move on the JTDG Racing driver on lap two. Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin has some strong opinion on it.
The three times Daytona 500 winner in the recent episode of his podcast Action Detrimental pointed out that Busch getting no penalty is unfair considering he was penalized for a similar incident last year. The penalty came after Denny Hamlin admitted his fault via his podcast, just like Busch did in a post-race interview.
Hence in the podcast he revealed that he has contacted NASCAR Senior VP of Computation, Elton Sawyer asking him to clarify why RCR’s Kyle Busch didn’t get a fine or point deduction. Sawyer didn’t give Hamlin answer during the podcast, But the 23XI Racing co-owner reckons he deserves an answer.
I had a points penalty. It’s not fair. I asked Elton Sawyer, been 20 minutes since I asked him, so I didn’t get a response on how it was different, because I wanted to give him an opportunity to explain that. I have not gotten a response, but if we do before the end of the pod I will let you know. They are the same. They are the exact same.Denny Hamin said via Action Detrimental.
Denny Hamlin insists Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was fined too much
While talking about the $75,000 penalty that was given to Ricky Stenhouse Jr. pointed out that it was too much and highlighted how NASCAR is hurting itself with the decisions. He reckons drivers will now hesitate from fights and it will cost NASCAR promotional material.
I think $75,000 was too much. I think you’re hurting what you’re promoting because they definitely use this for promotion, however, they don’t ‘like it.’ Certainly, that amount of money will make drivers think twice about throwing hands, which I don’t that is necessarily a good thing.Denny Hamlin said.
The 23XI Racing co-owner is spot on with the suggestion that the severity of the fine would stop drivers from expressing their opinions. Drama like the one at NWB is important to the sport and individuals should be allowed to show their expression emotions.
