The NASCAR Cup series returned after the extended Olympics break, with a lot of controversies and drama. Richard Childress Racing’s Austin Dillon won the race at Richmond after he wrecked race leaders Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin on the final corner, to secure the victory and make his way into the playoff coming into the weekend P32 in the championship table.

Joey Logano was furious over how he lost the race, and he showed his frustration in the pit-road after the race. He stopped his car before the No:3 team and NASCAR officials on the pit and spin his tiers creating a lot of smocks. Many has suggested that the antic deserves a penalty, but Denny Hamlin via his podcast has come out defending the Penske driver.

Certainly, NASCAR doesn’t love any kind of acts on pit road because it’s a hot pit road and whatnot. No one is supposed to be over the wall at the point that the cars are coming onto pit road, but it has gotten loose over time. Maybe they tighten that up a little bit.
Denny Hamlin said via Action Detrimental.

The veteran driver doubts NASCAR would do anything to penalize the Ford driver as the pit-stop was live and the crew shouldn’t have been over the line at the moment. It would be interesting to see how NSASCAR is going to address this situation, considering there will be a huge backlash if only Logano is penalized.

He was seeing red at the moment and he saw the guys on [Dillon’s] team, so he did a burnout in front of them. I don’t know, I doubt they’ll do anything.

We gotta be all or nothing. We gotta go for the win now for the next four weeks, and then you got to start points racing again when you get into the playoffs… You gotta be able to get through the rounds and put yourselves in the position to get to the Championship 4. I feel good, we can get there for sure.
Joey Logano said before Cook Out 400.

If it wasn’t for the wreck, Logano would have taken the first big step to secure his spot in the solid championship contenders list. But the performance was good from the team and they would be hoping to continue during the same in the upcoming events as well.
