“Derrick Lewis is the fight to make,” Dana White is ready to overlook Jon Jones as Francis Ngannou’s next opponent

“Derrick Lewis is the fight to make,” Dana White is ready to overlook Jon Jones as Francis Ngannou’s next opponent

Derrick Lewis and Francis Ngannou

‘The Predator’ Francis Ngannou finally achieved his lifelong dream of winning the UFC Heavyweight title at UFC 260 by knocking out Stipe Miocic. It was pre-decided earlier that the winner of this match is going to face Jon Jones but UFC President Dana White doesn’t think so now.

After Ngannou won the title Jon Jones demanded a bigger paycheck to face him for his first title defense. That’s why in the post-UFC 260 fight press conference White says if Jones doesn’t want this fight there are plenty others to do so.

White says, “Derrick Lewis is the fight to make, but if Jon Jones really wants that fight, and listen, it’s one thing to go out and tweet and say you want it, and I put on the weight and this and that – do you want the fight?”

“I promise you we can call Derrick Lewis or one of these other heavyweights and they want the fight. If Jon Jones really wants the fight, Jon Jones knows he can get the fight.”

“All he’s got to do is call and do it. It’s easy to say you want the fight, but if you really want the fight, Francis Ngannou is the heavyweight champion of the world right now. All he’s got to do is pick up the phone and call UFC EVP and Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell and we can get the deal done.”

Jon Jones is okay to let Derrick Lewis face Francis Ngannou first

The former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones seemed to be very pissed by Dana White’s comments at the post-fight press conference and he made a series of tweets in which he says he never showed disinterest in this fight.

In one of his tweets, Jon Jones says, “I’ve been fighting my whole adult life, this shit just doesn’t feel right when you feel undervalued. It’s not an issue of wanting to fight. It’s an issue of wanting to be paid better. Let’s make that clear.”

Although Jonny Bones is in no rush to pick this fight until he gets a big fat check. He is even okay with Derrick Lewis taking on Ngannou before him.

Jones says, “It’s OK, Derek can have the fight. No need to rush a great thing. I’ve already had a Hall of Fame career, I’m going to need some bread.”
