Despite poor playoff record, LeSean McCoy asserts Lamar Jackson takes ‘unfair criticism

Lamar Jackson lately has come under great scrutiny ever since the discrepancy in his regular season and postseason has been highlighted. Despite being one of the only three active quarterbacks in the league to win multiple MVP honors, the quarterback has a losing playoff record of 2-4. 

Heading into the 2024 season, the Ravens stand as a firm contender for the Super Bowl trophy but then it raises the question of whether or not Jackson will be able to come through in the playoffs. And that’s been the topic of discussion all around the league, making the quarterback the center of intense criticism all around. 

Highlighting that in the recent episode of FS1’s Speak show, former NFL star running back LeSean McCoy came in the defense of the reigning NFL MVP against the criticism, calling it “unfair.” He compared Jackson with other QBs of the league, who are often excused for the things the former is put through a trial. 

All these other quarterbacks that were Heisman [winners], that were first picks overall, we give them grace, we give them excuses. Baker Mayfield is always excused over and over again. They don’t talk about him the way they talk about Lamar Jackson.

LeSean McCoy said

The two-time Super Bowl champion further highlighted that despite winning the NFL MVP honors for the second time, the quarterback had to fight for an extension– which he believes is unlikely since he did post an AFC No. 1 seeded season with the Ravens.

While talking about how the three-time Pro Bowler is unfairly criticized, McCoy also brought in the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen (who is his favorite quarterback) to back his argument. He emphasized that Allen has also not won a Super Bowl in his tenure but he is not graded the way Jackson is. 

The way we grade Lamar Jackson is crazy because he is doing the best he can. He can be better in the playoffs, I would give him that. I'm just saying they don’t keep the same type of attitude with Lamar like they do with other quarterbacks.

LeSean McCoy added

He further highlighted the Pro Hall of Famer Peyton Manning’s playoff record in his first five seasons, which was 0-3. But, he was given the chance to improve and develop into the legend he is known today, however, Jackson has not been given such an opportunity.
