Dak Prescott fell 63 spots to finish 79th in the new top 100 NFL players list. He was no longer the 13th-best player in the league who narrowly missed out on the league MVP in 2023.
Running back Deuce Vaughn believes that the 31-year-old should be higher on the list.
Dak Prescott, I could sit here 45 minutes to an hour… saying good things and great things about Dak Prescott. I feel like, of course, he should be much higher than 79.
Deuce Vaughn told Kay Adams on the Up & Adams Show
After assessing the 2024 season results and performances of every athlete, NFL Network’s Christian Gonzalez released the names of the players from 75 to 80 on his top 100 (tentative) player list. Prescott placed 79th overall, dropping 63 places compared to the previous list.

In Gonzalez’s opinion, Prescott slid so far down the pecking order because of his untimely hamstring injury in week 9.
Despite how it looks, Gonzalez credited Prescott for even making the list. The Cowboys barely managed to win a total of seven games. Of course, it was nowhere close to being sufficient for them to play postseason football.
The Cowboys QB’s impact on the field was missed and his NFL peers took notice of Prescott’s absence as Dallas failed to make the postseason.
Gonzalez wrote
Prescott is entering a new era in Dallas with Brian Schottenheimer as head coach. Vaughn believes that Prescott has all the tools he needs to climb the list and finish higher next year.
This upcoming season, I feel like he will be very… very high on that list whenever it comes back out because of the player that he is and the way he has come back from that injury. We have nothing but faith and a whole bunch of love for Dak.
Vaughn quipped

Ex-NFL MVP warns Dak Prescott of the implications of bad results in the new season
After seeing top players, including center Tyler Biadasz, defensive end Dorance Armstrong, and running back Tony Pollard, leave for different teams, Cowboys fans began preparing themselves for another year of torture. For a brief period, Jones remained motionless about free agency additions to focus on the draft.

Jones drafted guard Tyler Booker and running back Jaydon Blue to spark a glimmer of hope among his supporters. Then came a big surprise. He brought back pass-rusher Dante Fowler Jr. Additionally, he signed running backs Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams and defensive ends Payton Turner and Solomon Thomas.
However, the George Pickens trade brought a rejuvenated excitement to Arlington. Pickens and All-Pro receiver CeeDee Lamb promise to be a one-two that can tear down NFL defenses with their skills.
More importantly, Micah Parsons is not holding out for a contract like a few others around the league.
Even though Schottenheimer has zero experience as a head coach, the Cowboys roster in general looks solid, and a former NFL MVP warns Prescott that if he doesn’t deliver in 2025, then Jones might take a different route.
If you do not perform this year, that [championship] door is going to close. And in comes, drumroll please — Arch Manning. If you don’t go to that NFC Championship this year… This is your career, bro.

The Cowboys, according to Sharpe Football Analysis, drew the 11th-easiest schedule for the 2025 season. However, on opening week, Prescott and Co. will travel to Philly to face reigning Super Bowl champions the Philadelphia Eagles.
