From roommates at the University of Alabama to debuting in the NFL together, DeVonta Smith and Henry Ruggs III’s bond is the epitome of friendship and loyalty. And while they got separated due to a tragic night in 2021, the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver emphasized that their bond remains as strong as ever.
Ruggs’ promising football career came to a devastating end when he crashed his car at the dawn of November 2, 2021, as he accidentally killed a 23-year-old woman. Last year, he was sentenced to prison for three to ten years for which Smith left practice to attend his best friend’s sentence hearing in Nevada.
In a heartfelt and candid reflection, Smith opened up about his deep bond with the former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver, emphasizing that their connection will remain unbreakable and that he will always stand by him no matter the circumstances.

The time when Huggs had the fatal DUI car crash, the Eagles wide receiver went through a tough time as he shared with the Philadelphia Inquirer last year and how he got through it with the help of his teammates in Philadelphia.
Henry Ruggs III transferred to transitional housing just 1 mile away from Allegiant Stadium
The former Montgomery prep star pleaded guilty to the felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges filed against him for the death of Tina Tintor in 2022. After his sentencing last year, he was incarcerated at Casa Grande Transitional Housing earlier this month in December.
He was previously sent to Stewart Conservation Camp, but since he is closer to being released, he was transferred to Transitional Housing, which is just one mile away from Allegiant Stadium, the home stadium of the Raiders, where he used to play.
According to Nevada Department of Corrections records, Huggs would become parole-eligible in 20 months and his anticipated earliest date for parole eligibility is August 5, 2026, and would have a mandatory consideration date for parole a year later in 2027.
Originally, Ruggs was charged with numerous counts of charges including substantial bodily harm, possession of a gun under the influence, and reckless driving resulting in death. These charges could have sent him to prison for 50 years or more as Clark County DA Steve Wolfson said but after they accepted a plea arrangement, the charges were reduced.
