Dhoni never lets emotions get the better of him, says Ricky Ponting
Ponting Dhoni
Former Australian Captain Ricky Ponting heaped praise on MS Dhoni for his cool temperament on the ground. He even said that it was something that he was not able to do successfully as a captain.
He said, “MS Dhoni never seems to let his emotions get the better of him, which is a really good trait in a leader — as hard as I tried when I was on the field, I could never quite stay in complete control of my emotions.”
Ricky Ponting has led Australia for more than 7 years. He has been part of the legendry team that won three consecutive ODI World Cups from 1999 to 2007. Ponting led the Australian in 2 of those World Cups.
Dhoni gets the best out of his players
The Delhi Capitals coach further mentioned how Dhoni’s ability to get the best out of his players has made him take India and Chennai Super Kings to enormous heights. Dhoni remains to be the only captain in cricket’s history to have won all the 3 ICC Trophies.
“Indian teams always seemed to lift when he was captain. He always seemed to have this knack to be able to get the best out of his players. You knew that he had things under control, and his teammates loved that about him.”
Lately Ponting had been spending a lot of time in India. Speaking about Dhoni’s popularity, he felt that whenever he travels around the country, he could hear cricketing fans talking about the former. His presence in everybody’s mind is just mindboggling.
Ponting keen on coaching against Dhoni
Starting from September 19, the build up to IPL has commenced. Ponting will be seen in the Delhi Capitals dugout as their head coach. Ponting knows that CSK has always been a strong competition for all the team playing in the league. And having being led by MS, it has all the necessary traits to do well in this edition too.
Ponting emphasized that he is looking forward to coaching against Dhoni. And will making sure the latter doesn’t win any game off his own bat when Chennai play the Delhi Capitals.
