Kamaru Usman successfully defended his welterweight title against his former teammate and sparring partner Gilbert Burns at the recently concluded UFC 258. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ shrugged off a poor start, to knock out Burns in the third round. At the post-fight interview, he called out Jorge Masvidal, as expected, as Usman had been quite vocal about fighting ‘Gamebred‘ in a rematch, since he wasn’t satisfied with himself not finishing Jorge, when the pair met at UFC 251. (Usman won via. unanimous decision)

Just when a rematch was looking imminent, Usman hinted (just today) that he doesn’t feel generous anymore and also that anyone can get ‘it’. Masvidal was quick to reply, accusing Usman of running scared, since he (Masvidal) would be getting a full camp this time.

Enter – Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, the only top ranked welterweight who has never fought against Kamaru Usman. Taking to twitter, Wonderboy revealed that he would be ready for it, since Usman mentioned earlier that ‘anyone can get it’ (title shot).

Thompson is on a two match win streak!

Did he say anyone?! Let’s get it!!!!“, an excited Thompson tweeted.

Stephen Thompson is ranked number 5 in the welterweight division. He is currently on a two match win streak, with his last victory coming over Geoff Neal in the last UFC event of the year 2020. Usman, on the other hand, has been on an absolute rampage. He is yet to lose a fight since making his UFC debut, and has never been taken down. A win for Usman over Thompson, would mean that – the Nigerian has cleaned up every nook and corner of the welterweight division.

Do you see this match happening?
