- Dillon Brooks was arrested for DUI after being pulled over for traffic violations in Scottsdale, Arizona.
- Bodycam footage revealed police noted a strong smell of marijuana in Brooks' vehicle during the arrest.
- Suns' head coach Jordan Ott downplayed the incident, stating it would not be a distraction for the team.
Dillon Brooks is currently recovering after undergoing surgery to repair the fracture he sustained in his left hand during the Phoenix Suns’ clash last month against the Orlando Magic.
It is expected that the 30-year-old would miss anywhere between four and six weeks after undergoing the procedure, as is generally laid out by doctors.
Usually, after such surgeries, anyone is often advised to stay away from alcohol. But for someone who has a reputation built on defiance and imposing his own will, Dillon Brooks was probably not going to listen to what doctors have to say.
A patrolling officer pulled the Phoenix Suns star over in Scottsdale, Arizona, around 1 AM on Friday for traffic violations. After an investigation, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Now, TMZ Sports has obtained bodycam footage of the interaction.
Failed to maintain the lane six different times, yeah? And to be honest with you, it smells like a dispensary in your car.
Police officer said to Dillon Brooks
After providing this information, the arresting officer asked the Canadian the last time he had smoked marijuana, and if he had marijuana in his car, to which he denied.

Then, while handcuffing him, the officer noticed something was wrong with Dillon Brooks‘ hand. When asked about it, the latter informed that he had surgery on his knuckles. But the officer cuffed the Suns star and placed him in the back seat of his police cruiser.
Dillon Brooks tries his best to reason with the police officer with a bizarre explanation
During that exchange about his surgery, Dillon Brooks asked if it was necessary for him to be handcuffed. But that was not the most absurd thing the Oregon alum said.

I’m literally in a car with you, watching you drive. And you are doing the exact same thing that I’m doing, which everybody does, cause everybody is doing something in their car.
Dillon Brooks said
Essentially, the 2023 All-Defensive Second Teamer, who almost earned his first All-Star callup this season, tried to suggest that his arresting officer was also cutting lanes, the same way he was caught doing.
Brooks tried to suggest that everybody does the same thing, as they are all doing something or the other inside their respective cars. But the officer did not bother responding to that conversation and kept driving.
Eventually, the police officer booked Dillon Brooks into the Scottsdale City Jail, where he was processed. Later, at around 3:30 AM, the NBA star was released from custody. A couple of hours later, he tried to show that everything was alright with a workout at the Suns’ facilities.
Suns head coach does not think much of Dillon Brooks’ DUI arrest
Usually, such law enforcement-related incidents tend to cause disruption inside the locker room, just like how it was between Shaquille O’Neal and the late Kobe Bryant.
This is the NBA. There’s a lot of these nights.
Suns head coach Jordan Ott said
This was the team’s head coach’s response when asked if Dillon Brooks’ DUI arrest was going to become a distraction for the Suns. In fact, Jordan Ott went on to talk about their upcoming game and how they needed to play better than the last time they did.

It seems the head coach does not want this to intentionally cause problems among his team. After all, Brooks’ injury, along with Devin Booker‘s one, has caused enough of a headache for them.
Since surging up the Western Conference, these injuries have led the Suns to have a losing run in February, and they are continuing to be inconsistent in this month.
Even though they have managed to post a surprise or two, the hope is that once they get their two leading scorers back healthy, they should be back winning games consistently.
