Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb fired head coach Sergej Jakirovic just two days after a disastrous 9-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League. The 47-year-old manager was sacked just 13 months after being appointed as manager, despite having a decent record.

Jakirovic had been appointed as Zagreb manager in August 2023, replacing Igor Biscan. In his 13 months in charge, he ended the 2023-24 season with two major trophies, the Prva HNL league title and the Croatian Football Cup. He also led the club to the round of 16 of the UEFA Conference League last season, losing out to PAOK.

Jakovic’s ongoing season with Zagreb began on a mixed note, but the club made it to the UCL league stages by defeating Qarabag in the play-offs. What turned the 47-year-old former Croatian defender’s fortunes around was their record 9-2 defeat to Bayern Munich. It was the club’s heaviest ever defeat and the first time that a club conceded nine goals in the history of the UCL.

Harry Kane scored four goals, including three from the penalty spot. Moreover, it added to Jakirovic’s mixed run of performances in the national league, with the club currently on the 3rd position in the Prva HNL table.

Meanwhile, Dinamo Zagreb, in a recent statement, announced its decision to sack their manager as well as appoint assistant Sandro Perkovic as the interim head coach. Their next UCL match will be against Monaco, who recently defeated high-flying Barcelona.

Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane reaches 50-goal mark, as he looks set to end trophy drought

England international and Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane expects to end his long-drawn trophy drought after a stellar start to the club’s UCL campaign. The 31-year-old forward struck four goals as Bayern registered a record 9-2 win over Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb.

The English skipper, who joined Bayern last summer in a sensational transfer move from Tottenham, breached the 50-goal mark after scoring four goals. He has now scored nine goals and provided two assists this season, leading the Bundesliga as well as the UCL scoring charts. He has already scored two hat-tricks as well.

Moreover, with 33 goals, the former Spurs forward also broke the record for the most goals in the Champions League by an Englishman. He has shattered the record previously held by Wayne Rooney, with 30 goals.
