Holger Rune admitted he lacked the rhythm he wanted during his fourth-round match against Novak Djokovic. The 21-year-old Dane fell flat in front of the Serb, losing the match easily in three sets 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 inside the Centre Court on Monday (July 8).

The match was expected to be a bit of a blockbuster, but Djokovic had no time for that as he did not waste much time to make it to another Wimbledon quarterfinals. After the match, the Dane explained one quality of Djokovic which makes it difficult for his opponents to beat him.

Novak is different in every match, even on the occasions when I was able to beat him, you never expect him to play the same way as the last time. That’s why he’s a champion, he always finds new ways to make things more difficult for his opponent.
Holger Rune said at the press conference

Djokovic suffered a knee injury last month during the French Open and underwent surgery. But he has not dealt with any knee-related problems during his Wimbledon campaign so far and even Rune praised Nole’s movement on the court.

Today he was really hurting me with his shots. To be honest, he moved me really well behind the baseline. All credit to him for his precision.
Holger Rune added

Djokovic has played against Rune six times and leads 4-2 in their head-to-head meeting, and the Wimbledon fourth round was their first meeting on grass. The 24-time Grand Slam champion will next face Australia’s Alex de Minaur who beat Arthur Fils to reach the quarterfinals.

Holger Rune explains why best players struggle against new players

Holger Rune, 21, is a player along with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner the tennis fraternity believes would rule on tennis courts after the retirement of the Big 3. He is now the World No. 15 but reached his career-best last year by occupying the fourth position in the ATP Rankings. Rune explained why the players usually deal with difficulties when a youngster arrives on the scene.

When you are new on tour, the players don’t know you as well, which makes it not as difficult for you, but it makes it harder for the best players because they don’t know your strengths and weaknesses.
Holger Rune said at the press conference

Rune has lifted four career titles but has not won a trophy this season. His best performance at a Grand Slam level came in 2022 and 2023 when he reached the quarterfinals of the French Open (twice) and, the Wimbledon.
