World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has withdrawn from the US Open 2025 mixed doubles event. The decision came just hours before he was set to team up with Katerina Siniakova for their opening-round match.
His withdrawal follows a troubling episode in the Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner trailed 0-5 in the first set before telling the chair umpire that he felt on the verge of collapsing. The contest was stopped after only 22 minutes, giving Alcaraz the victory.
Katerina Siniakova doesn't have a partner because Jannik Sinner was forced to withdraw from the US Open Mixed Doubles event.

Instead of repairing her with a different partner, they replaced her entirely. She skipped Cleveland to play this event.

Although his name still appeared in the US Open mixed doubles draw, hopes for a quick recovery proved unrealistic. The physical strain he endured in Cincinnati made competing in New York the next day impossible.
While most eyes remain on Sinner’s condition and decision to step back, there was another twist. Siniakova, his would-be partner, was left out entirely from the US Open mixed doubles competition, sidelined without a chance to participate.
Tennis fans bash the US Open for showing disrespect to Katerina Siniakova
As soon as the news came about Katerina Siniakova not getting a mixed doubles partner, the tennis fans came out in support of her. The fans bashed the US Open for neglecting a huge champion in the US Open mixed doubles draw.

Total disgrace by the @usopen.

Shame on you, US Open. Katerina Siniakova isn't just one of the best contemporary players in both doubles and mixed; she's already earned a place in the history of tennis. This isn't just disrespectful, it's pathetic.

The US Open mixed doubles event is one of the most talked about events of this year. In case of Jannik Sinner, he initially was scheduled to play against Emma Navarro. However, the American withdrew on the last minute due to an injury.
Hence, Siniakova was given a chance to play alongside the World No.1. However, that partnership was over before the first ball was struck due to the illness sustained by Sinner in the Cincinnati Open final.
Despite that, the US Open mixed doubles format is in full flow. All eyes are on Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu, who are the biggest profile mixed doubles pairing.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz become top two US Open seeds
The Canadian and Cincinnati tournaments are finished, which now shifts attention to the US Open. Main-draw matches begin on Sunday, August 24, with a packed men’s singles field ready to take the stage in New York.
The lineup has already seen changes with two notable withdrawals. Grigor Dimitrov, ranked No. 25, is out due to a chest injury from Wimbledon, ending his run of 58 straight Grand Slam appearances. Arthur Fils, ranked No. 21, also pulled out with a back problem. Their absence opens the door for Gabriel Diallo and Luciano Darderi, who will enter as the 31st and 32nd seeds.

At the top of the draw, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner is looking to defend his US Open crown. The Italian has already captured the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles this year and defeated Taylor Fritz in last year’s final in New York. Standing in his way is world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz, the new Cincinnati champion and 2022 US Open winner, who is eager to rebound from his disappointing exit in 2024.
Rounding out the top seeds are Alexander Zverev and Fritz at No. 3 and No. 4, both chasing a first major. Jack Draper and Ben Shelton are set as the fifth and sixth seeds, while Novak Djokovic, who has not competed since Wimbledon, is seventh. Djokovic seeks a record 25th Slam after last winning in New York in 2023. The eighth seed is Alex de Minaur, who reached the quarter-finals in Flushing Meadows last year.
