‘Disgraceful’ event during NBA Finals saw Celtics fan say ‘inappropriate’ things to Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving's strained relationship with Boston Celtics has been an often talked about topic.
Kyrie Irving endured disgraceful act from Boston Celtics fan saying inappropriate things to Dallas Mavericks superstar during NBA Finals
Kyrie Irving has been at loggerheads with Boston Celtics fans ever since he left the franchise for supposedly greener pastures. His stomp on their logo increased the hatred to the point where the relationship was beyond repair. That has already seen fans take their brunt out on the Dallas Mavericks superstar during the games at TD Garden. However, tonight in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, a disgraceful situation took place.
During the 2nd quarter, the Dallas Mavericks were trailing the Boston Celtics. However, the lead was not insurmountable. Therefore, they were trying to give their all. In one such play, as the ball was going out of bounds, Kyrie Irving leapt into the crowd to keep the ball in play. He landed on the ESPN commentator’s side. But there was a row of Celtics fans just behind them. ESPN’s Mike Breen detailed an incident involving one of them that took place.
Irving was upset. I couldn't see who it was, but somebody said something to him, inappropriate while the guy's down on the floor, which is a disgrace.Mike Breen reported
Breen summed up the situation without creating controversy. He knew something inappropriate was said to Irving but chose not to reveal it. Breen and the other ESPN staff helped Kyrie Irving to get out of the mess of tangled wires. But the hatred from Celtics fans was evident as the entire arena continued to chant ‘F*ck Kyrie’.
What happened between the Dallas Mavericks superstar and the said fan remains unknown. More importantly, it goes to show that no matter how he tries to repair the relationship, it is way beyond repair.
Kyrie Irving gives Boston Celtics props
The strained relationship with the fans did not stop Kyrie Irving from giving his former teammates their props. He talked about it in the post-game press conference.
When I was shaking everybody’s hands, that was more of a sign of respect for their journey. They've been through an incredible 5-year span of going to Game 7s or losing in the Finals. So they know what this bitter feeling feels like being up here answering questions about when this next year holds. And I think they used everything as motivation.Kyrie Irving said
Kyrie Irving, now much more mature than his old self, knew what it takes to win. This is why he was appreciative of what his old teammates had done.
He showed that towards the end of the game by going around shaking the hands of every Boston Celtics player and coaching staff members before leaving the court. A sign of respect from their former leader, but more importantly, showing his sporting side.
But Kyrie Irving is not done. He will come back next year with his Dallas Mavericks to show the NBA world what they can do.
