Philadelphia 76ers’ Head Coach Doc Rivers recently spoke about the Michael Jordan and Lebron James‘ G.O.A.T Debate. While Rivers chose Michael Jordan as the greatest basketball player. He also suggested he is aware why people oppose in favor of Lebron James. Rivers has played against Jordan whereas he has coached against LeBron James on numerous occasions. So, the man has seen enough of both legends to compare on.

Rivers appeared on SportsCenter to talk about Michael Jordan and LeBron James. While the comparison between the two has enormous points to make. Many have suggested than LeBron’s legacy is greater than Michael Jordan’s. But the former is not as big a winner as Jordan. But having said that, the domination both have had on the court has been beyond description.

“For me, Michael is the G.O.A.T” Doc Rivers

Rivers said, “I played against Michael and have always put Michael as No. 1, but that shouldn’t take anything away from LeBron or Magic (Johnson) or Kareem (Abdul Jabar), who I think gets overlooked way too much as well … Kobe as well,” Rivers said. “But Michael, to me, is the greatest player. He’s the GOAT. It’s OK that everyone measures themselves against him.

“You can obviously make an argument for LeBron. Me, I’m always taking MJ until I see something better.”

“It took him 7 years to win an NBA title. It’s because he didn’t trust the system, he wanted to dominate it himself, he didn’t get the importance of using his teammates and using everyone else but, no one criticized Michael back then; and the difference between Michael and LeBron – when Michael came in the league, he surprised everybody on how great he was. When LeBron came in the league, they expected him to be great so it was already on him. Michael in some ways, we allowed him to grow into greatness. We didn’t allow LeBron that and he STILL overachieved.

Lastly Rivers added, “LeBron is BETTER than anyone would’ve thought which is amazing. When you read it and go back… you should and read articles about LeBron coming into the NBA and then say he overachieved that? … it’s remarkable. He rarely gets hurt, he always shows up, he’s had some of the BIGGEST clutch games in NBA history yet, no one knows it. It’s incredible. I think LeBron is going to be one of those guys when he retires in 10 years from now people are going to say, ‘Man…LeBron James was one the BEST players EVER.’ And we’re going to be back saying, “We tried to tell you that 20 years ago. You’re too busy trying to tell us that he wasn’t, but he is…”
