Edwin Diaz has faced some difficulties during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers this season. On Tuesday, the closer was placed on the injured list by the team following neck inflammation. Fans, however, accused the team of trickery.

Diaz and his side have struggled in recent times. The 2-time defending champions have a 9-11 record in their last 20 games, which included a barren 7-game losing run.

Few of these defeats have come with Diaz on the mound. The former New York Mets star has struggled with his form since coming back from an injury in his elbow.

The right-handed pitcher has blown 4 saves this year, with 3 of them coming in a recent run. The pitcher’s velocity has also dropped a bit, leading to concern among the Dodgers fans.

Amidst this run, the Dodgers have now placed the pitcher on the injured list. As per Katie Woo of The Athletic, the NL West side was placing him on a 15-day injured list following some neck inflammation. They are bringing up Emmet Sheehan from Triple-A.

Despite his recent form, manager Dave Roberts had kept faith in him. The skipper expressed that he would remain the closing pitcher for the team going forward.

On Monday, he entered the game with his team leading 11-2. He ended up giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs as the Dodgers won 11-5.

With him now on the injured list, the team could make Tanner Scott their closer. However, he also had a tough time in his position last year. He blew 10 saves during the regular season. This year, he has 2 blown saves in 19 save opportunities.

Fans on social media, however, did not buy this. They accused the LA-based side of tricking and using the “phantom” list, the deliberate fabrication of injuries to open up roster spaces.

On X, several users slammed the team. One wrote, “faking an injury” while taking a swipe at the Dodgers.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

This is not the first time the Dodgers have faced the wrath of the fans. Many times they have been accused of “ruining baseball” for their financial power, their aggressive acquisitions of top players, and massive payrolls.

Edwin Diaz is not the only Dodgers’ new acquisition who has struggled this year

Edwin Diaz has not been able to live up to the expectations placed by many. In 16 games, he has a 11.85 ERA with a 2-2 record. However, he is not the only new Dodgers’ acquisition who has struggled this year.

One name that has had a disappointing campaign so far is Kyle Tucker. The former Houston Astros star, who signed a $240 million deal, has been on a major offensive slump this season.

Before the game on Tuesday, he was on a 7-game hitless streak. During the recent homestand, he went 0-for-19 and got booed by the fans after dropping a routine fly ball on Sunday.

In the game against the Colorado Rockies, he finally had a hit. With the game tied at 3-3 in the 4th inning, the outfielder recorded an RBI double and broke his hitless streak.

Diaz and Tucker were seen as major acquisitions that boosted the chances of the Dodgers to complete a three-peat. If the team were to accomplish this historic task, they would need both of them to step up a bit.

Another huge name the champions recently added was Tarik Skubal. They acquired the 2-time AL Cy Young Award winner through a trade from the Detroit Tigers.

While the southpaw has mostly looked in control, he is 0-2 in his 3 starts with the team. He has a 3.18 ERA in 17 innings while giving up 7 runs (6 earned) and 2 home runs.

For now, the team will look to complete the sweep of the Rockies before heading home for a 3-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates. After that, they will be on the road again and face the Atlanta Braves and the Detroit Tigers.
