Pete Crow-Armstrong stole the show on Monday night. The outfielder smashed an iconic walk-off home run, which helped the Chicago Cubs beat the Chicago White Sox 7-5 in extra innings. Fans on social media went into a frenzy following this home run.

In the matchup between the two Chicago sides at Wrigley Field, Crow-Armstrong got the party started. He hit a leadoff home run on the very first pitch of the Cubs’ offense in the bottom of the first inning.

After the Cubs led 2-0, the White Sox came back. A 3-run home run by Randul Grichuk in the 4th inning put the visitors up 3- 2 in the game.

The game continued to swing either way. The Cubs took a 4-3 lead in the 5th inning and then fell 5-4 in the 8th inning through a go-ahead home run from Andrew Benintendi. With 1 out in the 9th inning, the Cubs tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI single from Nico Hoerner.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, PCA finished off the game. The left-handed hitter smashed a 2-run walk-off home run to lift his team to a 7-5 victory. He also joined the 30-30 club (30 home runs and 30 stolen bases) with this home run.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, Crow-Armstrong is now the 6th player in MLB history to have a leadoff and walk-off home run in the same game. While this was his 5th game with a leadoff home run, this was his 1st career walk-off homer.

He is also the first Cubs star to go 30-30 in back-to-back seasons. In MLB history, he is just the 10th player to do so. As for the Cubs, he is the second player after Sammy Sosa (1993 and 1995) to have two 30-30 seasons.

PCA is one of the favorites to win the NL MVP Award this year. The other player in this race is a certain someone named Shohei Ohtani.

Shohei Ohtani also hit 2 home runs on Monday amidst PCA’s heroics

The National League MVP Award for this season has become a race between Pete Crow-Armstrong and Shohei Ohtani. While the Cubs star had a historic night on Monday, Ohtani also had a 2-home-run game.

The Los Angeles Dodgers took on the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. During the series opener, Ohtani smashed 2 home runs as well.

He first hit a solo home run in the 5th inning before slamming a 2-run home run in the 6th inning. The Japanese international finished the day going 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs.

Crow-Armstrong also went 4-for-5 with 2 home runs and 3 RBIs. He did steal one base as well. Both stars were named the Player of the Game.

This year, Ohtani is eyeing a 3-peat of the NL MVP award and a 4-peat of the MVP honor, having won the AL MVP award in 2023. His 4 MVP awards are the second most of any player in the league, only trailing Barry Bonds, who was a 7-time MVP.

As for Crow-Armstrong, he is hoping for his 1st MVP win. If he wins, he will be the 12th Cubs star and the first since Ben Zobrist in 2016 to win this honor.
