The WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg was schooled by one of his old rivals in a catchy exchange on social media.

Somewhere this summer, Goldberg is slated to wrestle his last match in WWE. The 58-year-old recently underwent stem cell therapy and is putting in the hard yards to regain the best physical shape of his life. But recently, The Icon posted a clip on X from SummerSlam 2019, where he beat Dolph Ziggler in 1:50 minutes. It was a squash more than anything.

Bill captioned it saying, “Be careful what you ask for.” Ziggler clapped back at Goldberg, basically claiming that nobody asked for that sub-two-minute match but Bill. A fan in the comments tried talking down on The Showoff, where the real-life Nic Nemeth quipped that he’s lucky enough to get in the ring with Goldberg and not end up on a hospital bed.

At the time Nemeth got into the crosshairs of the WWE HOF’er, he wasn’t happy with his position within the company. Reports claimed that Ziggler was on a pay lip service and wanted to quit after jobbing out to ‘Da Man.’ Vince McMahon was fine with the proposition but eventually refrained from his promise of letting Ziggler go.

The former World Heavyweight Champion was handpicked as Goldberg’s SummerSlam opponent to recuperate the WCW veteran. Earlier that year, the former defensive tackle for the Falcons had succumbed to The Undertaker in Saudi Arabia.

Right from the get-go, having two legends way past their in-ring prime was a disaster waiting to happen. Goldberg, at one point, almost broke Taker’s neck by botching a jackhammer. It was after that showdown with The Phenom when the WWE Universe realized that Goldberg shouldn’t be wrestling anymore. But anyway, he did.

Triple H contacted Goldberg about his retirement match

As mentioned above, Goldberg is within touching distance of his retirement. The Tulsa native recently provided more insights into how it came about. Speaking to Ariel Helwani, the former WCW Champion revealed that it was Triple H who approached him to see if Bill was interested in wrestling one more match.

They conversed over the phone, and Goldberg was grateful towards Mr. Paul Levesque for being incredibly kind. The 56-year-old had long felt that Vince McMahon never kept his word of rewarding him with the just farewell. The semi-retired wrestler was battling with covid when the former WWE Chairman notified him about his title match with Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber 2022.

It was the last time the fans saw Goldberg inside the squared circle. Elsewhere in the interview with Helwani, Bill mentioned that he had his prejudices before entering into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. There’s been immense speculation over the years that the Saudi officials demanded to have big-time attractions like Goldberg on shows in their country. Being a Jew, the former Universal Champion wasn’t expecting the kind of warmth he received there. However, Bill was taken aback by experiencing how welcoming the people were.

Potential opponents for Goldberg’s last WWE match

While it’s certain that Bill will set foot inside the ring soon, he doesn’t have a clue on who he’s going to face. At one point, it seemed as if he’d be squaring up with Gunther. The two men had an intense segment at the Bad Blood PLE last October in Atlanta.

However, the plan to potentially convert their beef into a match has seemingly been dropped. If not the Austrian, Goldberg would love to run it back with Roman Reigns. The OTC currently holds the distinction of being the last WWE Superstar to have beaten Bill fair and square.

Another name who’s on the legend’s radar is Bron Breakker. Goldberg has spoken highly of the IC Champ’s explosive strength. Whoever opposes Bill in his last-ever wrestling bout might experience a passing-of-the-torch moment.
