Dominik Mysterio is the current AEW World Champion, according to a faux pas that occurred during AAA’s debut show on FOX this past weekend. In a video package aired during the live broadcast, ‘Dirty Dom’ was displayed wearing the AEW title belt instead of the AAA Mega Championship that he won back in September by beating El Hijo del Vikingo.
The howler has made the netizens hilariously congratulate Mysterio for completing two days as the reigning AEW World Champion. They have been having a field day about it since the video package aired on January 17.
In it, one could see the Judgment Day member gloat about himself being the reason behind helping AAA get the recognition by selling out arenas every now and then.

‘The King of the Luchadores’ also bragged about doing something his deadbeat dad could never do—defeat John Cena in a singles match. The son of the great Rey Mysterio won the Intercontinental Championship back from ‘The Cenation Leader’ at Survivor Series 2025 after having initially lost it on Raw in Cena’s hometown of Boston. He has yet to defend the title since regaining it from Cena.

The San Diego native has been inactive in recent weeks due to a shoulder injury he incurred while wrestling at AAA’s Guerra de Titanes event in December 2025. Reports suggested that his injury wasn’t major, and WWE expected him to be back by the Royal Rumble weekend. The fans could definitely expect the 28-year-old to directly return in the men’s Royal Rumble match slated for January 31 in Riyadh.
Dominik Mysterio reflected on his best matches and lessons learned from his father
Dominik Mysterio had a breakout year in 2025. Winning the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 41 in a Fatal-4-Way match was one of the greatest steals in recent memory. In an interview that he gave to Sports Boom in late November, ‘Dom’ revealed it to be his favorite match thus far. The current AAA Mega Champion said that the win helped him kickstart the “Dirty Dom” shtick.

Mysterio also gave a special shoutout to his WWE debut match with Seth Rollins. They collided at SummerSlam 2020 at a time when the entire world had to shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mysterio and Rollins wrestled behind closed doors inside the Thunderdome setup of WWE, and they ended up producing the match of that entire PLE.
Some exclusive backstage footage showed that ‘Dirty Dom’ received a warm hug from the then-WWE CEO Vince McMahon for shining in his first main roster match. Mysterio hailed ‘The Visionary’ as the greatest wrestler of this generation and was pretty grateful about getting to work with the Iowa native.
In the same interview, the Judgment Day member broke character and revealed how his legendary father helped him get better at gauging the crowd’s reactions and act accordingly.
Dominik Mysterio describes father Rey Mysterio as a "cheat sheet" when they were tagging together early in his WWE run:

‘The King of the Luchadores’ revealed going blank in one of the matches he had alongside the ‘Master of 619’, but the latter would always guide his son out of the predicament just by telling him what to do next via sign language.
‘Dom’ said the best advice he received from the WWE Hall of Famer was to calm down and stop panicking after he’d grown frustrated with himself while competing in the ring.
That cue was exactly what the IC Champ needed in the moment. Dominik Mysterio added that he listened to the crowd and made his next move based on it. The father-son duo has crossed paths a number of times in WWE. They had a highly entertaining affair at WrestleMania 39 that the fans still rave about.
