Whenever it starts to look like Dominik Mysterio has his back against the wall, he pulls a rabbit out of his hat. The 28-year-old retained his Intercontinental Championship in an Eddie Guerrero-inspired ending to his title defense against Penta on this week’s Raw. The former AEW star had ‘Dom’ on the back foot until Rusev appeared at ringside.

It distracted the Mexican trailblazer, who took the ‘Bulgarian Brute’ out. In the meantime, Mysterio had rolled out of the ring and grabbed both the AAA Mega title and the IC title as if he were looking to walk off. But that’s not what ‘Dom’ was there for. Instead, he deceived the timekeeper and stole the hammer that is used to ring the bells.

After sliding back into the ring, the San Diego native hid the hammer in his left boot after hitting Penta with it. The Judgment Day member then proceeded to land a 619 on his opponent to get the pinfall victory. And just like that, Mysterio reigned supreme. However, there’s no rest for the weary, as Rey Mysterio‘s son is slated to defend the IC title against Rusev on Raw next Monday.

‘Dirty Dom’ already beat the Bulgarian wrestler two weeks ago and kept his gold intact, but the finish to that bout was not clean. The ‘King of the Luchadores’ went low on the erstwhile Miro and rolled him up for the win.

Having gone through the chicanery of Mysterio once, it’d be interesting to see what upgrades Rusev has made to his repertoire. ‘Dom’ has managed to hold on to the Intercontinental title ever since he won it at WrestleMania 41. Not even AJ Styles could take it off Rhea Ripley‘s on-screen ex.

Dominik Mysterio slated for epic John Cena showdown at Survivor Series

If a recent report from Dave Meltzer via his Wrestling Observer Newsletter is to be believed, Dominik Mysterio doesn’t seem likely to drop the IC title next week. It’s so because he’s reportedly scheduled to defend it against John Cena at Survivor Series in his hometown of San Diego.

Cena does hold the record for most world titles won in WWE at 17. However, he is yet to get his hands on the prestigious mid-card title. With just four more dates remaining on his WWE farewell tour, the Hollywood mogul is running out of time to get things done. But if Cena does beat ‘Dom’ for the IC title belt, it would make him a grand slam champion in WWE.

‘The Cenation Leader’ is next advertised for the November 10 edition of Raw in his hometown of Boston. It needs to be seen what makes him enter a feud with Mysterio. Would Cena issue an open challenge to see who ends up accepting it? That could be one way to do it. Back in April, the Peacemaker star had some kind words for ‘Dirty Dom’.

‘The Last Real Champion’ said on the Pat McAfee Show that Mysterio was born for this business. Referring to himself as a relatively late bloomer, Cena affirmed that Randy Orton was someone who made pro wrestling look easy right from the get-go, while ‘Dom’ has made it look effortless.

‘The Prototype’ hailed the Judgment Day member as someone who doesn’t crack under pressure and said that he’s swum laps across everybody else, no matter what pool WWE has put him into. Cena then made a bold claim that in about two decades, Dom is going to be the most famous Mysterio of all time, while giving all due respect to his legendary father, Rey Mysterio.
