“I couldn’t let my legacy end like this,” Donald Cerrone isn’t willing to hang his gloves right now
Donald Cerrone and Alex Morono
The UFC veteran and one of the biggest names in the UFC Welterweight division Donald Cerrone faced one more loss at the co-main event of UFC Vegas 26 against Alex Morono.
This was Cowboy’s fifth consecutive loss his last win came against Al Iaquinta on UFC Fight Night: Iaquinta vs Cowboy in May 2019. Donald Cerrone is 38 right now and many people are saying that is high time for Cowboy to hang the gloves.
But according to him quitting isn’t an option. After the UFC Vegas 26 post-fight press conference, Cerrone says, “I’m sure now there will be a lot of talk of, ‘Maybe he’ll retire. Maybe this is the right time.’ But that isn’t anywhere in my train of thought,” {H/T MMA Junkie}
“I have to figure something out. I feel like I came out, started hard. Who knows? We’ll have to watch it, assess it, see what’s going on. I’m in good spirits.”
Cowboy continued, “I’ll go home and see my two boys, hang out with my family. Shitty night at the office but hopefully UFC isn’t sending me off anywhere and you guys will see me again.” {H/T MMA Junkie}
Donald Cerrone doesn’t want his career to end like this
Alex Morono stopped Donald Cerrone in the very first round of the fight by a right hand but Cowboy still believes he is training at the highest level and Cerrone isn’t willing to believe his time has come.
In one other interview with Brett Okamoto, Cerrone says, “I don’t know what to answer to you on, ‘Is it that time?’ I don’t know. I don’t feel like it, But how I feel and how I perform are two different things.”
“It sucks. Who knows? I want to go back to ’55. No excuses. That kid came in and was ready. I’ll never go out like this, there’s no way I’ll end like this. I couldn’t let my legacy end like this.” {H/T MMA Junkie}
Alex Morono was the first fighter who wasn’t the former UFC champion or interim champion that Cerrone has lost to. What are your views on this should Cowboy hang his gloves or does he deserves a farewell match?
