Donald Trump fulfilled yet another promise as he signed an executive order prohibiting transgender participation in sports, the previous Wednesday. The monumental event was followed by heat towards transgender swimmer Lia Thomas. Former UPenn swimming athletes launched a lawsuit against a flurry of entities concerned, for letting Thomas compete against them in the women’s category.

Over the years, multiple efforts have been made to keep transgender AMAB(assigned male at birth) athletes from participating in women’s sports. The lawsuit, coming from Grace Estabrook, Ellen Holmquist, and Margot Kaczorowski, highlighted Lia Thomas’ unfair participation in the 2022 Ivy League women’s championships.

Kaczorowski, also Thomas’ teammate, chipped into Fox News to share her daunting experience the whole year. Elaborating on their ‘dark cloud’ over swimming, she shared that the women athletes were “forced” to be in the locker room with Thomas. The administration proceeded to shut down any contradictory notion despite the athletes expressing discomfort.

“We were told by the organization that Lia swimming was a non-negotiable. And if we had any problems they were providing CAPS (Counselling and Psychological Services),” shared Margot Kaczorowski.

Furthermore, Kaczorowski shared that the LGBT Center implied that the athletes were amiss for thinking the inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sports was a malfunction in the system. With Donald Trump’s order in place, the future of sports is subject to considerable change. The complaint demands the respondents to vacate Thomas’ collegiate records in the said event when she won four first-place medals and set multiple records.

The litigation specifically targets Harvard, the NCAA, UPenn, and the Ivy League. The plaintiffs argue that they deliberately crowned Lia Thomas as a national champion to ‘normalize’ trans athletes across sports. That said, Thomas has not yet made any comments about the lawsuit alleging women’s subjugation in a ‘Trans 101′ session. Notably, World Aquatics’ rules have barred her from several international events, preventing her from pursuing competitive swimming after college.

Donald Trump calls out Riley Gaines’ unfortunate loss to Lia Thomas

Everybody acquainted with the years-long proposal to exclude trans athletes from women’s sports is aware of Riley Gaines‘ contribution. The former competitive swimmer at the University of Kentucky deserves much of the credit for the transformation – as done by Donald Trump at the signing ceremony, highlighting her accomplishments and accolades.

Additionally, Trump also congratulated her on her exertions advocating for the change. While at it, he called out the media who glorified Lia Thomas’ feat. Of the incident, he called it to be “ridiculous”, having watched it personally. Trump reassured all the athletes of the vehemence of his order defending the females participating in sports.

Having suffered discrimination firsthand, Gaines has been a prominent voice in the movement. Back in 2022, she tied fifth against Lia Thomas in the 200-yard freestyle final. However, she stood in sixth place with the organization promising to send her a trophy later. The prejudice led Gaines to commit to women’s safety in sports and against the inclusion of trans athletes.
