Donald Trump and Giannis Antetokounmpo

Former USA President Donald Trump has been making the headlines lately after his recent comments regarding the Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. Notably, Trump attended the Republican National Convention held last week in Milwaukee, where he spent much time with the NBA side, the Bucks, and visited their stadium.

Trump boasted about the Bucks’ stadium, calling it “beautiful” in a recent rally in Charlotte, North Carolina. Not only that, he also spoke about how beautiful Milwaukee is as a city and how welcoming the people are. However, the topic that attracted much interest from the NBA community was Trump’s referring to Antetokounmpo as “The Greek.”

The stadium was beautiful. Milwaukee was beautiful, they did a great job. The stadium is new. They built it for the basketball team, which is excellent. You know 'The Greek,' right? 'The Greek.' He's a good player.

It’s important to note that, raised in Athens, Greece, to Nigerian parents, Giannis Antetokounmpo is a standout player for the Bucks. The two-time MVP guided Greece to the 2024 Olympics in Paris. He was selected by his fellow players to be the flag carrier, and he will take part in the official opening ceremony on Friday.

Donald Trump once harshly criticized the NBA

Donald Trump is garnering all the attention in the USA right now as he runs for his Presidential elections. Recently, Trump praised the NBA side, the Milwaukee Bucks after he visited Wisconsin. Notably, back in 2020, Trump was not a big fan of the NBA and its players as he went all out and harshly criticized the league on Fox Sports Radio.

Look at the basketball ratings. They are down to a very low number. They have enough politics with guys like me. They don’t need more as they are going up for the shot. There was a nastiness about the NBA the way it was done, too. The NBA is trouble. Big trouble. Bigger trouble than they understand.

The NBA is and will always be one of the most intriguing leagues in the USA. Despite, Trump’s harsh comments, the NBA garners more and more viewers after each season. This speaks volumes regarding the league and its popularity in the world. However, with the NBA players currently featuring for their national side ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, all attention shifts to the decorated tournament.
