Donald Trump attended the men’s US Open final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, and later he gave his reaction to the match. When news of Trump attending the match broke, Alcaraz was asked about it ahead of the final, and he said it would be a “great” thing.

Though after his win, he said he is careful whenever he makes statements, knowing fully well the repercussions of his remarks on controversial subjects or personalities. When he served for the last time and it was unreturned, the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium erupted into loud cheers.

But Trump looked ‘unimpressed’- the clip of his sombre expression has gone viral with fans accusing him of jealousy just because he wasn’t the center of attention. Later, during an interview with Fox News, Trump gave his verdict on the final.

I loved it. The two players have unbelievable talent. It just seemed they hit the ball harder than anything I have seen before. Incredible talent. The fans were really nice. I didn’t know what to expect. Usually, you would say that would be a somewhat ‘progressive’ crowd, as they say nowadays. The fans were great.

Alcaraz took a 10-5 head-to-head lead over the Italian and also increased his win-loss record in Grand Slam finals to 2-1 after his US Open and French Open wins and his defeat at Wimbledon. The win also helped Alcaraz reclaim his No.1 ranking from Sinner, ending his 65-week reign.

Andy Roddick on Carlos Alcaraz’s service games at the US Open

In the final, the six-time Grand Slam champion was broken just once. Andy Roddick, during his Served podcast, couldn’t stop praising Alcaraz’s serves.

I was talking to him about his serve this morning in the locker room, and he said, ‘Yeah, that’s something we’re working on.’ Before, he was going straight up and down, so he had to push to one side. He wasn’t using much spin. And he said, ‘That’s a lot better, isn’t it?’ I said, ‘Yeah, that’s a lot better.’

It was Alcaraz’s second win at the US Open after his victory here in 2022 (over Casper Ruud). The win made him the youngest man to reach the top of the rankings.

It’s crazy, and then he put on that show on the serve we saw this night; he dominated from start to finish. For me, that’s the most dominant Grand Slam I’ve seen him play; it’s completely crazy, crazy, and scary at the same time.

Andy Roddick added

Alcaraz played three Grand Slam finals this year. He suffered a four-set defeat to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open quarterfinal and finally got his revenge when he downed him in the US Open semifinal.

Alcaraz then successfully defended his French Open final after tough five sets against Sinner before losing to him in four sets in the Wimbledon final. So far this season, the two young rivals have met five times, with Sinner winning only at SW19. Sinner played all Grand Slam finals this year, winning at Wimbledon and the Australian Open.

They will next play the China Open to kickstart their campaign on the Asian swing. Alcaraz clinched his first title on the continent when he beat Sinner in the China Open final. But before heading to Beijing, Alcaraz is expected to feature in the Laver Cup.

He withdrew from Spain’s Davis Cup tie against Denmark. Alcaraz will be chasing his eighth title of the season in Beijing, while Sinner will be bidding to win his third title.
