President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the ongoing golf merger deal and claimed “there’s a good chance” that the PGA Tour and PIF will wrap it up soon. These words come after he hosted another round of talks at the White House this past week between Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
The PGA Tour and the PIF have been working hard on closing out this deal which was announced in June 2023. The framework agreement released at that time hinted about golf being reunified and being played under one tour.
This past Thursday, Commissioner Jay Monahan along with tour player-director Adam Scott and 15-time major champion Tiger Woods released another joint statement. In this, they expressed about having another constructive meeting regarding the merger.
In a recent dinner with the governors, Donald Trump was asked for an update regarding these talks by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The 47th US President would thus mention that “there’s a good chance” of this deal going through.
I think there’s a good chance that we’ll do that. I think there’s a very good chance.

The 78-year-old had previously dropped a bold claim regarding this deal. Before his re-election, he expressed confidence of getting the deal done within 15 minutes.
With the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) becoming an obstacle, the tour finally decided to reach out to him. Since his intervention, the chances of this deal finally going through have increased a bit.
Golf insider claims recent talks between PGA Tour and PIF did not go well
While Donald Trump may be confident about a deal between the PGA Tour and PIF going through soon, a golf insider has dropped a huge claim. He claimed that the meeting on Thursday at the White House did not go well.

As per Golfweek‘s Eamon Lynch, the meeting on Thursday did not go as many tour executives had hoped for.
Rumblings from informed sources suggest that Thursday’s meeting at the White House didn’t go as well as Tour executives had hoped, which suggests that PIF governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, remains determined to keep shoveling cash into the furnace of his own pridefulness.

Recently, there had been reports that suggested that the PGA Tour and PIF had reached a financial agreement on this deal. However, these words from Lynch have once again stirred up speculation regarding the merger.
There had also been talks about a early return of LIV Golfers on the PGA Tour. Insider Rex Hoggard recently revealed that a LIV Golfer told him about a possible return of them at The Players Championship in March next month.
With these words from Lynch, the chances of LIV golfers returning at The Players Championship are very low. The signature event which has a limited field, is currently scheduled to take place from March 13-16 at the TPC Sawgrass. At the same time, LIV Golf will host its 4th event of the 2025 season from the Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore.
