Donald Trump made a major move on Wednesday regarding sports. The 47th U.S. President officially signed an order to ban transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports.
This participation of trans athletes in girls’ and women’s events has been a major topic. Over the past two-three years, several debates regarding this have taken place with prominent names like swimmer Riley Gaines leading a protest to ban them.
Gaines had been one of the top activists regarding this. Following her encounter with trans swimmer Lia Thomas at the NCAA championship during the year 2022, Gaines started working as an activist in order to get Thomas and other trans athletes banned from competing in women games.
Trump on the other hand had been reported to make a big move regarding the transgender community. Recently, he declared that the United States government will only recognize two genders – male and female going forward. This sparked huge controversy and backlash from the LGBTQ+ community.
On Wednesday at the White House, Trump officially signed the order which will now ban transgender athletes from women sports. At that time of signing, he was surrounded by Gaines and several other female activists and young girls.

Riley Gaines shares 12-word reaction to Donald Trump banning transgender athletes from participating in women’s sports
Riley Gaines has been one of the driving forces in the ban of transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. On Wednesday, her wish did come true as Donald Trump penned down the ban order at the White House. She would later drop a 12-word reaction on social media.
Gaines had been highly active on social media. She had used the platform time and again to urge the agencies to stop allowing trans athletes to face women competitors. Taking to her X account, she expressed her pleasure with this decision from Trump.
I can't even tell you how much this visual means to me https://t.co/NjxWz5cR3D

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova also reacted to this move. The 18-time Grand Slam champion also took to her X account and seemingly credited Trump for banning trans athletes from going against female stars. She would call out the ‘democrats’ for failing to protect women.
I hate that the democrats totally failed women and girls on this very clear issue of women’s sports being for females only. https://t.co/mevCXPDFFm

Trump is now also pushing the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to make some changes in their rules on transgender athletes. With the next games set to take place in Los Angeles in 2028 on US Soil, there could be some changes on the way.
