Donovan Mitchell was consistently elite in the second-round of the Eastern Conference playoffs until the latest game.

- Donovan Mitchell scored a series-low 18 points in Game 6 against the Detroit Pistons.
- He shot only 30% from the field, contributing to fan frustration and criticism.
- The Cleveland Cavaliers now face a decisive Game 7 after losing the momentum in the series.
The momentum was in Donovan Mitchell and his Cleveland Cavaliers’ hands in the Eastern Conference Semi-finals. That is what everyone thought after his team won three straight games against the Detroit Pistons.
They could not open the series in the way they wanted to, as the East leaders managed to throttle anything the dynamic guard and his teammates tried.
But in Games three, four, and five, they flipped the narrative, with the New York native leading his team in scoring. Even adding those losses, Mitchell was averaging more than 30 points per game.
On the other hand, it was his veteran teammate James Harden who was facing most of the brunt from both the fans and the media. They felt the 11-time All-Star was playing true to his ‘postseason choker’ legacy.
After Game 5, Harden silenced his critics after dominating throughout the battle. Then came Game 6, and he managed to put up a team-leading 23 points and 7 assists.
However, it was Donovan Mitchell’s performance that left fans angry. The Louisville alum scored a series-low 18 points. More importantly, he managed to do so while shooting at an embarrassing 30% from the field.
That inefficiency, combined with Harden’s eight turnovers, allowed the Detroit Pistons the time and space to snatch the momentum back in their favor.
Fans fume as Donovan Mitchell’s lackluster performance forces Game 7
This was the Cleveland Cavaliers’ game to lose. They had the momentum, they were playing in front of their home fans, and all Donovan Mitchell needed to do was perform to the same standard he had maintained so far in this series.
Instead, fans were left fuming when they saw him miss countless shots, which handed the Detroit Pistons enough chances to force Game 7. They took to social media to flame the superstar guard, examples of which are below.
Literally was playing like fanduel payed him to throw it. Ridiculous…

Had Donovan Mitchell produced at his same efficiency, then maybe he and his teammates could have booked their trip to face the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Now, they have to wait and play one more game before they can find out if that is in their destiny.
Donovan Mitchell gets honest after missing multiple shots
Once the game was over, naturally, reporters who noticed Donovan Mitchell’s rough night were going to ask him about it. After taking a deep breath, the former 13th overall pick replied:

Well, I can’t dwell on it. I missed shots tonight… I’ve been making them every game this series, and tonight I didn’t. I’m not worried about that. It’s more so everything else. We missed an opportunity… We gotta go out there and win on the road.
Donovan Mitchell replied
His answer was straight to the point. He has performed well in the past and acknowledged how he missed shots and eventually cost the game.
The Cavaliers have not had success in the past, and this was their chance to ensure there are no doubts about their abilities.
