“We couldn’t beat y’all…” Draymond Green and Derek Fisher debate over prime Warriors vs Shaq-Kobe headed Lakers matchup

Draymond Green and Derek Fisher debate over Warriors vs. Lakers
While talking about some of the greatest teams in history, it is hard not to mention the early 2000s Los Angeles Lakers and the late 2010s Golden State Warriors. Both teams had some of the most talented rosters and some legendary duos. A matchup between these two would certainly be iconic. On the Draymond Green Show, as Derek Fisher was the guest, Green and Fisher settled the debate.
Draymond Green is always confident as without hesitating. On the show, he boldly claimed that the prime Warriors would beat Derek Fisher‘s Lakers in five games. While Fisher expressed doubts about Green’s opinion, he admitted that the series would be a battle.
However, Fisher stressed the difference between the rules. As the old rules would allow more physicality, Green accepted defeat.
Quite frankly, if I'm being honest, I don't think we could've beat y'all at those rules. No chance.Draymond Green said
According to Fisher, with the old rules, the guard would ‘beat’ Stephen Curry on defense. As Green agreed, he also debated that the Lakers would lose if the new rules were applied. The Warriors were an offensive force who were difficult to stop, and they had the advantage of the modern playbook. However, the Lakers had probably the most dominant player ever, Shaquille O’Neal, on their roster.
In the earlier seasons, this Lakers roster would destroy opponents with their defense. The Warriors would not be able to tolerate such an elite defense. With the defensive unit, the team also had one of the best scorers in Kobe Bryant who would’ve given Green a hard time on defense. It is safe to say that watching these two teams compete would be a dream for any basketball fan.
The Lakers vs Warriors debate has been going on for a while
Just a few weeks ago, Green was a guest on Shaquille O’Neal’s podcast, where he had claimed that the Warriors would beat the Lakers. Shaq on the other hand, was also confident in his team as he also put up the idea of Fisher guarding Curry or Klay Thompson. However, the debates have been going on since long before that.
A couple of years ago, when the Warriors won the championship in 2022, Curry also gave his two cents on the topic. During an interview with Complex, Steph also chose his side, but just like Green, doubted if his team could guard Shaq. At the same time, the four-time champ was also confident about the Splash brothers.
If you could match up in some alternate universe, us versus the 2001 Lakers, obviously we feel like we can win. I don’t know who would guard Shaq but I don’t know who would guard me and Klay either. We rockin’ with that.Stephen Curry said
Considering the success both teams have seen, it would be hard for the players to accept a defeat. The debates might go on forever but there will not be any conclusion as the situation is hypothetical. However, as the Warriors still are an active team, the dynasty might still have a chance to add more titles.
