Draymond Green Doesn’t Think Josh Allen Can Win Super Bowl for Bills
Despite being one of the best quarterbacks in the last five years, Bills Josh Allen fails to break into the Super Bowl conversation because he falters when the team needs him the most.

Josh Allen was hit with a reality check from Draymond Green. The NBA star is skeptical about the reigning NFL MVP’s chances of winning a Super Bowl in the future.
Speaking with NFL insider Jordan Schultz on the latest episode of Why is Draymond Green Talking About Football, the basketball player made a controversial statement that’s bound to make a few heads turn. Green claimed that the Bills quarterback Josh Allen is not ‘the guy’ in the NFL.
He stated this after the Bills pulled off a remarkable come-from-behind win over Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens. Green argued that the win proved nothing because the four-time Pro Bowler fails to deliver when it matters the most.
Josh Allen is a damn good quarterback. But just because he’s a damn good quarterback doesn’t make you the guy. He’s never gonna get it done when it matters the most. I don’t care how Herculean of a comeback effort you have at home in Week 1; he’s never gonna be the guy that’s gonna come out and win a championship and be the guy when it matters the most. He’s not the guy!

Draymond Green still doesn’t believe in the MVP.

It is a controversial assessment of a player who ranks fifth in quarterback rating with 101.7 (an NFL record of 149.0 in 2021) in 13 playoff appearances and has over 30 touchdowns.
The unlikely story of Josh Allen’s success
Allen’s rise as one of the best quarterbacks in football came as a surprise to many. After not receiving any scholarships from D1 college football programs, he tried the Juco (junior college) route at Reedley.

The Reedley project opened doors to Wyoming, where he went 16-10 in three years. His swashbuckling play style generated ample attention, but it also caused him to throw 21 INTs.
NFL scouts weren’t too high on his potential as a starter in the league. The Bills rated him differently. He was surprisingly very high on their list.
The AFC East team gambled on Allen and took him 7th overall instead of highly regarded Josh Rosen. Allen was the third quarterback taken in the draft after Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold.
Naturally, Sean McDermott came under fire for selecting an unknown prospect with a choppy college record. McDermott hit the bullseye. A Bills team that had only played one playoff game since 2000 turned into a perennial challenger for the AFC.

The Buffalo franchise won five straight East titles, played divisional round football each time they qualified, and reached the conference title game twice.
However, this is where Daymond’s statement derives its value from. Allen, similar to Jackson, cannot get the job done. Despite going deep into the postseason, Allen lost twice to Mahomes and the Chiefs right before the big game.
Retired NFL athlete and ESPN contributor Booger McFarland once made a comment that sums up Allen’s career precisely.
I think Josh Allen has to ask himself, ‘Was I born in the wrong era?’ [That’s] because [Patrick] Mahomes is not going anywhere… At some point, [the Bills] gotta figure out a way to get over the hump.
Booger McFarland said
Still, there’s no denying that Allen is a top quarterback. He possesses an innate ability to work miracles with limited resources, which was primarily the reason voters picked him as the MVP over Jackson in 2024.
Allen’s seven postseason wins are more than the highest-paid football player ever, Dak Prescott, with two. The Bills saw the value in the 29-year-old to sign for the next six years.
