After Team USA narrowly defeated Serbia to advance to the finals of the men’s basketball competition at the 2024 Olympics, they are now set for an epic showdown with hosts France. The gold medal will be decided in the contest between these two teams. However, Draymond Green has already taken the opportunity to take a jab at Rudy Gobert ahead of the finale.

The Golden State Warriors forward and the Minnesota Timberwolves center have been at odds for half a decade. Recently, Green disclosed his plans to watch the game live, sitting right behind his arch-rival Gobert, who is on the Team France roster. While speaking on his podcast with former NBA star Baron Davis, he said:

And I'm going... No straight up, I'm going... I need to talk to Rudy Gobert. I'm this close to wearing both of my gold medals in there too... Should I wear the 2020 Olympic medal that we beat France in the gold medal game again?

Green mentioned that he plans to sit right behind the France bench during the game between Team USA and the host nation. He confirmed this on the show to Davis, who was shocked by the revelation. Draymond Green also hinted that he might show off his gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics at the venue, likely to taunt Rudy Gobert.

It’s clear that the Warriors player isn’t a fan of the Timberwolves star. On a recent episode of his show, Green took a jab at Gobert after the latter was dropped from the French team for their game against Canada. He remarked that the decision to exclude Gobert was a smart move by the coaching staff, significantly improving France’s chances of winning.

Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert feud came down to physical altercation last time

The rivalry between Draymond Green and Rudy Gobert dates back to 2019. It began when Gobert reacted emotionally after missing out on an NBA All-Star Game selection in Charlotte. Green took the opportunity to mock Gobert’s reaction, posting on social media: “I guess I should cry too… no Charlotte?”

Fast forward to the 2023-24 NBA season, things finally got out of hand when Green put Gobert in a chokehold. The incident occurred during the first game between the Timberwolves and Warriors, as Klay Thompson and Jalen McDaniels became entangled. As Gobert rushed to hold off Thompson in the heat of the moment, Green intervened to support his teammate and put Gobert in a headlock.

Gobert didn’t hold back when asked about the situation, calling Green’s actions “clown behavior.” The French star also mentioned that he believed Green intentionally got involved because Stephen Curry was out injured. Over the years, the two players haven’t missed a single opportunity to go at each other, and it seems like that rivalry is far from over.
