After three games, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is in the driver’s seat for the regular-season MVP award if he can maintain this form. He has missed out in seasons past and seems motivated to win it this year.

That started in the offseason when the Slovenian pulled out all the stops to ensure he arrived at training camp in the best shape of his career. Matching his rookie season weight was a major improvement over the overweight accusations he has faced in the past.

Losing weight helps players move better and avoid injuries. Doncic seems to be taking full advantage of the former, as he has been torching whoever has stood in front of him.

He may have needed some motivation from a trash-talking rookie in their first game. But since then, he has continued his form and become one of the best scorers in the league.

The exclamation point was his 52-point explosion against the Utah Jazz yesterday. After that game, he seemingly vaulted into the MVP race. However, Draymond Green does not believe those performances will be enough.

I still wholeheartedly believe he never wins an MVP… Voters get fatigued seeing you be great over and over again.

The Golden State Warriors superstar reiterated on his namesake show that the MVP race has been focused on the likes of Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the past few years.

Therefore, Luka Doncic will have to do a lot to draw voters’ attention back towards him. But in the event he has a few bad games, the criticisms that will follow could derail any prior momentum. Hence, it will take a Herculean task to win it.

Former 3-time Sixth Man of the Year asks voters to root for Luka Doncic

Draymond Green has a point that when voters look at what Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have done in the past few years, they tend to dismiss Luka Doncic’s effort as not being great enough to be considered.

However, since the former two have won five of the last six, former player Lou Williams believes it is time voters looked at the other superstar who is yet to win.

If we’re giving it greatness fatigue, then we gotta look across the board… Especially the guy that doesn’t have one… that’s the guy that you root for and push to the forefront.

The three-time Sixth Man of the Year believes that fatigue should not just be confined to the Lakers guard. Instead, it should be directed at Jokic and SGA since they have won it multiple times already.

Instead, he wants voters to appreciate what Luka Doncic has been doing. Just because he has a few bad games does not mean he should be dismissed. Therefore, Williams expects the voters to give the 27-year-old a chance, especially when he has started the season in this manner.

Lou Williams surprised by Luka Doncic’s Lakers

After talking about voter fatigue and how they should give Luka Doncic a chance, the cast of Run it Back continued to talk about the Los Angeles Lakers. When show host Michelle Beadle asked Lou Williams if the team’s 3-0 start surprised him, he replied:

I didn’t expect them to be 3-0 right now… Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves are playing great.

Williams said

The 40-year-old admitted that the Lakers are enjoying an easy opening schedule. However, that should not take away from the fact that both Doncic, his partner in crime, Austin Reaves, and offseason trade acquisition Walker Kessler are playing well.

Williams then pointed out that the franchise rebuilt this team to fit a certain playing style. But he did not expect them to start this well, considering reconstructed teams take time to gel. Maybe that trip to Slovenia did its trick.
