Drew McIntyre has addressed why he went off on Roman Reigns and CM Punk in a recent SmackDown promo. ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ labeled both superstars insecure for their belittling comments directed at him and the Undisputed WWE title. Speaking on the Busted Open Radio podcast, the Ayr-born wrestler affirmed that he wasn’t much bothered by what Reigns and Punk had to say about him.
In fact, the aspect of their fiery promo exchange that perturbed the Scot the most was the Undisputed WWE Championship being downplayed as if it were a consolation prize. McIntyre also didn’t take kindly to the SmackDown brand being ridiculed in the process. ‘The Chosen One’ said that’s why he vented on Roman Reigns and CM Punk a couple of weeks ago on the blue brand.
Say whatever you want about me. I can protect myself. I look after myself verbally. To be honest, they weren’t even that bad… That didn’t bother me. It was the stuff about the [WWE Championship] and SmackDown, making it feel a little less than when they’re such big superstars………
Drew McIntyre via the Busted Open Radio podcastMcIntyre asked the entire SmackDown roster to get serious and start putting their best foot forward if they didn’t want to catch his ire. The former 3MB member was disgusted about SmackDown being made to look like the inferior brand, with their world champion being deemed “the easy way out” by Punk during that back-and-forth with Reigns.
Drew McIntyre says he was more upset about CM Punk and Roman Reigns’ comments on the WWE Championship and SmackDown than what they said about him:

In the aforementioned interview, McIntyre hoped that the SmackDown roster will now give its 150% every time in the ring. ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ has already shared his thoughts on ‘The OTC’ not choosing him to face at WrestleMania 42.
McIntyre said that Reigns made the better choice going for a “tattooed sociopath fragile Phil who’s just one fall away from his career being over” than waging war against a 280-pound Scottish war machine.
‘Big D’ even stated that he’d annihilate Reigns if he dared to step up to him alone without his Samoan army backing him up. McIntyre quipped that while Punk and Reigns are aura farming and acting like a couple of little boys, he has the entire WWE roster scrambling to get into the Elimination Chamber to earn the right to face the No. 1 Champion and the real best in the world in the main event of WrestleMania.
Why Drew McIntyre doesn’t want to face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 42?
The men’s Elimination Chamber match next Saturday is going to change someone’s fortune with a WrestleMania 42 berth and the consequent entitlement to challenge Drew McIntyre for the Undisputed WWE title up for grabs. The confirmed participants in the Chamber match thus far include Cody Rhodes, Randy Orton, LA Knight, Je’Von Evans, and two more spots yet to be filled.

While every superstar will risk it all to emerge victorious in Chicago to head to Las Vegas for the big one, is there anyone on Drew McIntyre‘s radar whom he would want to defend his title against? “Anyone but Cody,” replied McIntyre when asked by Dave LaGreca in the aforementioned Busted Open Radio interview.

McIntyre reminded everyone how the referees bailed Rhodes out of precarious spots in the first two matches he had with ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ last year. McIntyre eventually delivered the goods the third time of asking when he ousted ‘The American Nightmare’ in that Three Stages of Hell match in Germany last month.
Countering the narrative of him being able to walk as the new WWE Champion just because of Jacob Fatu‘s interference, McIntyre outlined that Fatu himself has affirmed that McIntyre was already on his way out of the cage the moment he showed up at ringside and went after him.
The Killer’s Game actor stressed that he wouldn’t let Rhodes regain the WWE title on his watch, especially when the ‘QB1’ is back in his so-called golden boy spot again.
Drew McIntyre vs. Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed Championship is currently planned to main event Night 1 of WrestleMania 42 this year.

Drew McIntyre said he liberated the championship for everyone but mostly him because he believed that he’s the right man to carry it forward on SmackDown and make the brand feel unpredictable and dangerous instead of sunshine and lollipops.
Despite the Scot’s reluctance to face the ex-AEW EVP anytime soon, the latter is reportedly scheduled to get his rematch against McIntyre at WrestleMania 42, with the possibility of Jacob Fatu being added to the mix.
