Medical Update About Drew McIntyre After a Scary Landing on the Floor in Chaotic US Title Match at Backlash
In a brutal spot that made many wince at the mere sight of it, Drew McIntyre's head came into direct contact with the concrete floor at Backlash.

The Scot might’ve not won the title, but Drew McIntyre showed out at WWE Backlash on Saturday. In a calamitous Fatal 4-Way match for the United States Championship, the Scot went to war against Jacob Fatu, who’s the champ, LA Knight, and Damian Priest. At one point, the latter delivered a South of Heaven chokeslam to The Scottish Psychopath.
It happened at a point when both men were duking it out in the midst of the fans. Priest, while perched on a technical toolbox with McIntyre, slammed the latter down through a table. The landing, however, was rough. The Scot’s head hit hard on the floor. As per PWInsider, the former WWE Champion was evaluated by the medics after the conclusion of the match.

A more concrete update on McIntyre was dispensed by WWE CCO Triple H during the post-show press conference. The Game said that even though The Chosen One was banged up, McIntyre’s alright physically. Having said that, it could’ve been a lot better feeling for the Ayr-born wrestler had he left St. Louis with the US title around his waist. It just wasn’t to be.

Jacob Fatu retained the belt after a shocking turn of events saw former NJPW star Jeff Cobb finally making his highly-anticipated WWE debut. Cobb aligned himself with Solo Sikoa and wiped out LA Knight. A confused Fatu would then roll back into the ring to do the rest on The Megastar and pin him. It didn’t look like the Samoan Werewolf wasn’t over the moon about Cobb’s arrival after the match.
What’s next for Drew McIntyre after WWE Backlash?
As noted above, Drew McIntyre didn’t exit the Enterprise Arena in St. Louis with championship gold. However, it’s also worth noting that the Scot wasn’t the one to eat the pinfall loss. Clearly, the intent was to protect the 39-year-old. But where does he go from here? First things first, McIntyre is slated to land a major Hollywood role, as previously reported.

It’s unknown at this point if he’d need an extended time off from WWE. But once that side hustle gets in the rearview mirror for McIntyre, he’s lined up for a major push in the world title scene. One would imagine if the Scot would be one of John Cena‘s upcoming opponents for the Undisputed WWE title. Speaking of the latter, he scraped through a gritty Randy Orton at Backlash to remain the Last Real World Champion.
WWE feels that Drew McIntyre is on the cusp (if not already there) of becoming a “significant main event upper echelon attraction.”

McIntyre will be a “huge focus” for the company heading into 2025.

McIntyre’s been a tad unlucky in terms of escaping the wrath of minor injuries, especially this year. Prior to his WrestleMania encounter with Damian Priest, The Scottish Warrior had pieces of glass enter his eye through a spot he did with The Street King, where the latter choke-slammed McIntyre on the windshield of a car. The Scot would then sport an eye patch for weeks.
Drew McIntyre features in brand-new ad for The Rock’s Project Rock
Back in April, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced that Drew McIntyre would be leading his new Project Rock campaign. The Final Boss even shared the first look of the Scot training for the collab. On this past Friday, the advert got released and the fans could see McIntyre in it.

Not that long ago, it was first teased that there was something going on between Johnson and McIntyre. The two even caught up backstage on the Netflix premiere of Raw. The Scottish Psychopath would later reveal in interviews that the Hollywood mogul was working on a favor that he’d asked of the 53-year-old.

The Black Adam star has been always high on the Ayr-born wrestler. In fact, it was Johnson only who announced that McIntyre had re-signed with WWE in 2024. Rock even gifted a traditional Claymore to The Chosen One. Out of everyone in the Anoa’i family, McIntyre only looks up to The Rock. Meanwhile, any collaboration on the WWE ring will only happen if the Hollywood star returns to the company.
