In less than three weeks, CM Punk will challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. That doesn’t seem to have sat well with one of the Chicagoan’s career-great rivals in Drew McIntyre. The Scot recently took to X and posted a hilarious clip of two toilet seats swinging closer, with one eventually destroying the other after a number of collisions.

McIntyre’s unbeaten social media game continued to impress the netizens as he hilariously compared the aforementioned meme-clip to that of how things will fall into place when Punk takes on Gunther. Knowing the Scot, he’s already predicting a total annihilation of ‘The Best in the World’ as he braces up for the menace of the erstwhile Walter. ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ has already picked his side by the looks of it.

It needs to be mentioned that the Ayr-born wrestler still doesn’t appear to have gotten over his beef with Punk. They haven’t come to blows in quite some time but were engrossed in a year-long rivalry in 2024. Their trilogy of matches is hailed as one of the best to have existed in this era of wrestling. Who could ever forget the way they painted the canvas red inside Hell in a Cell?

While currently not feuding with Punk, McIntyre’s celebrating what he believes is going to be a nightmarish experience for his arch nemesis against Gunther. For the unversed, ‘The Second City Saint’ has earned this distinction of standing across from ‘The Ring General’ by virtue of winning a Gauntlet Match on this week’s Raw.

CM Punk came face-to-face with Roman Reigns on Raw

The aforementioned Gauntlet Match ended in CM Punk clocking Bron Breakker with a GTS to seal the SummerSlam spot. However, in its aftermath, Breakker and his cohort Bronson Reed started unloading on Punk and his temporary backup, Jey Uso. The onslaught continued until Roman Reigns came out to even the odds.

It was The OTC’s first WWE appearance since the night after WrestleMania 41. He single-handedly tamed the Breakker-Reed duo and reached out for his down-and-out cousin, Uso. Punk thought Reigns would extend a hand for him as well, but that didn’t happen. The babyfaces stood tall as Seth Rollins‘ henchmen were left with no choice but to retreat with Paul Heyman.

One might feel that Reigns/Uso vs. Breakker/Reed is in the cards for SummerSlam now that Rollins is out with an undiagnosed knee issue. But it would be too soon to rule Punk out from the equation, as he and Reigns did have a bit of a stare-down in the ring this Monday.

‘The Second City Saint’ has a humongous task at hand to deal with—Gunther. As such, Punk can’t risk taking his eyes off what should matter to him the most right now. After all, Seth Rollins is out of the picture temporarily due to an injury.

Can CM Punk put previous horrors to rest at SummerSlam?

It hasn’t been that long since CM Punk got screwed over in a world title match. In fact, last month, he took on John Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship. The former AEW star had his iconic rival on tenterhooks. However, it completely went south for the 46-year-old once Seth Rollins and his crew made their way out. The Visionary’s shenanigans were enough to cost Punk the title match against Cena.

It was why ‘The Voice of the Voiceless’ was exasperated at Rollins on the subsequent episode of Raw, and they even brawled. With the former Shield member no longer in the hunt to sabotage Punk in the foreseeable future, could that turn the fortunes in his favor?

It’s not going to be easy since The Best in the World’s tenacity will be tested by a formidable Gunther. They’ve wrestled each other during a handful of live events, but never mixed it up on the main roster. The fans are looking forward to what does seem like is going to be an instant classic at SummerSlam.
