“I Invented a Few Swear Words,” Drew McIntyre Explains His Royal Rumble Outburst from This year
The former two-time WWE Champion Drew McIntyre was reportedly seething with anger over his ugly-looking Royal Rumble elimination spot.

Drew McIntyre entered this year’s Royal Rumble match as one of the favorites. However, he got tossed out rather tamely by Damian Priest in a spot that was loudly booed by the fans in attendance. McIntyre, however, was extremely upset about LA Knight inadvertently taking the spotlight away from his elimination that came across as extremely underwhelming.
In a recent interview with Gorilla Position, the former WWE Champion confirmed those reports of him being irate over the way things transpired, as noted above. McIntyre claimed that he did swear and eventually stormed out of the building. He did so because he’s a professional, said the 40-year-old.
The Ayr-born wrestler asserted that such emotional outbursts keep troubling him once every couple of years. McIntyre lamented the fact that these incidents get leaked on social media at the drop of a hat. He also added that he’s learned to distance himself from the situations where temperatures are already flaring and later address it if there’s a need.
I will tell you that I was not happy. I invented a few swear words, and then I left the building………

The Scottish Psychopath consequently jabbed at Seth Rollins, who had previously hurled expletives at CM Punk upon the latter’s WWE return at Survivor Series in 2023. McIntyre mocked Rollins’ conduct, who went berserk seeing Punk re-emerge on WWE programming after almost a decade.
Circling back to the Knight/McIntyre Royal Rumble beef, The Megastar told GP before WrestleMania 41 that he wasn’t even aware of it until someone sent him an article pertaining to the story. Knight said he couldn’t divulge much, but he did have some conversations over his reported troubles with the Scot. The former US Champion had also taken a shot at McIntyre during a promo on SmackDown in February.
Drew McIntyre once again speaks highly about The Rock backing him up
Someone like Drew McIntyre doesn’t have a lot of close friends in the business of professional wrestling that he’s in. He even alluded to it during a promo that he cut on Raw after his return in November 2024, saying none of his peers checked on him when he was mentally crippled with a personal loss.

But there was one individual who reached out to him whom he decided to keep under wraps. It may have been The Rock. In the same GP interview as above, The Chosen One talked about the Hollywood mogul’s unconditional backing of him through thick and thin. McIntyre disclosed that when he was still young, he ran into Rock and his then-wife Dany Garcia on a flight they were on.
WWE's Drew McIntyre has opened up about his relationship with The Rock, saying that Rock has "always looked out for him":

The Final Boss had some really kind words to say to McIntyre at that point in time. McIntyre claimed that Rock kept bestowing advice upon him when he was part of the 3MB stable, also comprising Jinder Mahal and Heath Slater. The Scottish Warrior was taken aback when The Black Adam star called him the future of WWE in a TMZ interview from 2019.
McIntyre was pleasantly surprised to hear about it, as he wasn’t even seen as one of the company’s top stars back then, but Rock kept advocating for the Scot. They met again at the Netflix premiere of Raw in January 2025, where McIntyre asked The Great One to do him a favor that might see the light of day in due time.
What is the current WWE status of Drew McIntyre?
Having last wrestled at Saturday Night’s Main Event, Drew McIntyre is currently on an extended leave of absence from WWE. He succumbed to Damian Priest in a steel cage match. It was intended to write the Scot off WWE television for a while.

A number of fans were upset at the deteriorating presentation of McIntyre on SmackDown, as he’s lost way too much for anyone’s liking over the past few months. The time off that McIntyre’s on currently could’ve been due to the fact that he was working through an injury. He got his head slammed onto the concrete floor at Backlash due to an avalanche South of Heaven chokeslam from Priest.
Their long-standing rivalry does seem like it’s finally in the rearview mirror. The only question is when McIntyre would come back. He’s been out of the world title picture for too long, and that’s something he would want to change. John Cena might need a threat like McIntyre to restore some credibility to his subpar title reign.
