German tennis player Dustin Brown has stated that he is not sure if Rafael Nadal holds a grudge against him for their head-to-head record.
Brown and Nadal faced each other twice on the ATP tour, with the former winning both times. Their first meeting came in the Round 16 in Halle in 2014, where the Spaniard lost in straight sets. A year later, they locked horns in the Round of 64 at Wimbledon, where Brown won in four sets.
Thanks to those wins, Brown holds a 100% head-to-head record (2-0) against Nadal. Recalling them, the 39-year-old stated that his defeat of Nadal at Wimbledon was one of the biggest results of his career. He also said that he does not share any personal relationship with the former World No. 1.
We don't have any personal contact. We see each other in the locker room, but it's just like with other people at work: there are people you have contact with, and some you only see at work. Even though I've been playing for 22 years and there have been some other results against very good players, at Wimbledon against Rafa, on the biggest stage in the world, it was one of my biggest wins.Dustin Brown said about win against Rafael Nadal during an interview with Kicker
Dustin Brown still counting on Novak Djokovic for 2024 Wimbledon
The focus of Dustin Brown’s interview quickly shifted to the 2024 Wimbledon Championships and the title favorites. The German, who is set to take the role of an expert for Prime Video for this season’s grass Major, gave his thoughts on the title contenders.
When asked about Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, Brown stated that there were never only two favorites at the tournament. He also pointed out that if Novak Djokovic was fit enough to compete, he would be a favorite despite the question about his physical state following knee surgery.
It's difficult to say. I wouldn't say that there are only two players who can win the tournament. It could well be that one of them will win. But even if Novak Djokovic has knee problems, you can never take him out of the group of favorites. And there are many in the field who can upset the favorites and seeded players early in the tournament.Dustin Brown said
Brown will also be in action at Wimbledon 2024, pairing up with Sebastian Baez in the men’s doubles. He
but only in the doubles event. The 39-year-old has taken up doubles since 2021 and will pair up with Sebastian Baez for this year’s Wimbledon. They are set to face Jan Zielinski and Hugo Nys in the opening round.
