Former World No.1 Dustin Johnson will make his 2026 debut this week at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. Ahead of this, the LIV Golfer claimed that he is still “good enough” to compete at the highest level.
Last season, the American international suffered a major slump in form. He would miss the cut at the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. In the Open Championship, he once again did not have the best of starts as he fired an opening round score of 2-over par.
He, however, was able to get back on track. A second round score of 69 saw him make the cut and secure his status of playing on the weekend. He then fired scores of 67 and 69 in the final two rounds to finish the event 6-under par and claimed a T23 finish.
As for the 2025 LIV Golf season, this marked the first year that he did not win on the Saudi-backed tour. He previously had won the LIV Golf Invitational Boston in 2022, LIV Golf Tulsa in 2023 and LIV Golf Vegas in 2024.
In 13 events last year, he recorded 5 top-10 finishes. His best performance came in the final regular event at LIV Golf Indianapolis as he finished 3rd, 2 shots behind Jon Rahm and Sebastian Munoz.
As the golfer prepares for his first start, his position in the majors is a bit precarious. While he has a lifetime exemption into the Masters following his victory in 2020, his 5-year exemption into the other majors has expired.
He is eligible to compete in the U.S. Open this year due to his 10-year exemption from winning that event in 2016. However, it will then expire at the end of this season.
The golfer, though, is confident about his skills and believes he still is “good enough” to compete against the best names in the sport.
As long as I play well, I think I’ll get in. If I play well, I think I’ll get into them. I want to play and compete. I still feel like I’m good enough to compete with the best. Obviously, this year is a big year. I need to play well. I’m looking forward to it.

A major problem for Johnson to qualify for the majors is his world ranking. Since leaving the PGA Tour, his rankings have taken a massive hit as LIV Golf does not receive the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) points. At the moment, Johnson is ranked 639th in the world rankings.
Golf fans laugh at Dustin Johnson following his comments
Dustin Johnson expressed confidence in himself recently and believed that he still has what it takes to compete at the highest level. Golf fans would however, mock him for this and trolled him on social media.

Several fans on X took a swipe at him for this. While some did support him, majority of them called him out. One user wrote, “Bro can’t even make the cut in a major“, while reacting to this.
Check out that and some other reactions from fans below:

He sacrificed his chance to be competitive in majors by joining LIV to play meaningless exhibitions.
He prioritised money & the easy life over glory.
He doesn’t know you can’t have both.
Sorry pal, you’re not even close! Wait for the Champions Tour!

He’s delusional

Keep partying, ship has sailed.
The fact that he’s citing the end isn’t a good sign

Johnson’s last top-10 finish in a major came at the 2023 U.S. Open, where he finished T10. Since then, he finished T43 at the PGA Championship, T31 at The Open Championship in 2024 and T23 at the Open Championship last year.
Dustin Johnson officially re-signs with LIV Golf
Dustin Johnson has officially re-signed with LIV Golf. After reports emerged last year that he had agreed to extend his stay, he has officially penned down a 3-year deal and will remain with the 4Aces GC until 2029.

The 2-time major champion was in the final year of his deal in 2025. Given the way he performed in the majors, there were some speculation that he would not re-sign with them.
However, that has not been the case. Johnson, who was one of the first members to leave the PGA Tour and join LIV Golf, committed his future to the Public Investment Fund (PIF) backed tour.

On top of that, his team also gets a new member. World No. 61 Thomas Detry became the latest name to leave the PGA Tour and joined the 4Aces GC.
His joining and Johnson’s re-signing come after LIV Golf suffered a major blow with the departure of Brooks Koepka. The 5-time major champion stunned the golf world by leaving LIV in December and rejoining the PGA Tour last week, becoming the first marquee name to return to the tour after playing for LIV Golf.
