Dustin Poirier has some harsh words for Justin Gaethje for disregarding his interim lightweight championship

“Diamond” Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor has got the world waiting and more recently it was decided that the bout will go ahead as a lightweight bout, which is the usual weight class of both the fighters. Dustin was once an interim lightweight champion in the UFC, which he held when he defeated Max Holloway. But, that was short-lived as he lost the very next bout with Khabib Nurmagomedov, thus relinquishing his belt.
In almost the exact same manner, Justin “the Highlight” Gaethje held the interim lightweight champion belt when he defeated Tony Ferguson, earlier this year. He too was set to unify his belt against Khabib Nurmagomedov and ultimately failed. Speaking of this, Dustin said he didn’t like the way Justin disregarded the belt, pointing out to the face-off incident at UFC 254, when Justin put the belt aside while posing for the photographers.
“Justin is a meathead saying, ‘I want the real one'” – Dustin Poirier on Justin Gaethje

Showing his displeasure at Justin, Dustin Poirier said, “For Gaethje to say that I had made it and I was holding a fake belt and him pushing that belt away, these last few months of him throwing the belt on the ground, I just wanna tell everyone watching this. This is a life lesson. You gotta understand and appreciate the position you put yourself in and be grateful for everything you have.”
He went on to add saying, “All these months of Gaethje walking around throwing that belt around could have been months of embracing the role he put himself. Not being a meathead and saying ‘I want the real one’. Dude, you a piece of the real one right there on your shoulder that you’re throwing around and disrespect. I honor my work and I carry that belt with pride.“
Well, Dustin might be right in a way. But, Justin’s eye on the bigger prize isn’t bad either. Who do you relate yourself with?
