‘It wasn’t a slap in the face’ – Dustin Poirier opens up on Conor McGregor donating $500 thousand to a different charity

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier had a nasty verbal spat a couple of weeks ago, after Conor refused to pay the stipulated $500 thousand to Dustin Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation. McGregor even threatened to pull out of the trilogy, but then the trilogy was made official soon after that.

More recently McGregor donated the same $500 thousand to a different organization situated in the same city as Poirier’s. It is called the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana. The organization thanked McGregor for donating such a huge amount towards helping their 2021 Summer Camps.

Poirier recently addressed this in an interview with Ariel Helwani of ESPN MMA. He said that it was all good, and as long as money reaches any charity, it’s great. He reiterated that it wasn’t a slap in the face, as many claim it to be.

It’s always been the goal, so at the end of the day, charity wins‘ – Dustin Poirier

Poirier was quoted as saying, “That’s so incredible, man, because at the end of the day, helping the community, helping people in need, was the mission and goal from the jump. From when I used to auction eBay stuff before I had the foundation, whenever we used to do small things in the community. It’s always been the goal, so at the end of the day, charity wins. It’s mission accomplished.

He continued, “I see a lot of people that want to attach negativity and say that that was a slap in the face, this and that stuff. When it comes to donation, Conor didn’t donate it to my charity, but it’s not my money. It’s the people’s money. I don’t know why people would think that or where they would get that from, but the charity wins at the end of the day, so it’s great. It wasn’t a slap in the face. It was a high five because the people in the community are gonna win.”

This is exactly why Poirier is loved. He could have gone on a rant and intensified the rivalry accusing Conor of not paying up to his charity. But, he handled that very well. Poirier had even liked the Instagram post of the Boys and Girls Club of Acadiana, which thanked McGregor. Props to Dustin for that.
