Dustin Poirier is one of the iconic fighters of the lightweight division. In the span of a fifteen-year extensive career, he fought some of the best names in the UFC including Jim Miller, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Conor McGregor. After a close title fight against Islam Makhachev, everybody thought ‘The Diamond’ was going to hang up the gloves. But that might not be the case after his recent story on Instagram. Here is what happened:

Dustin Poirier has an active social media presence with over 5.2 million followers on Instagram. One of his fan accounts had posted a video of him walking out for a face-off against Benoit Saint-Denis in front of a massive crowd at UFC 299. Poirier reposted the story on his Instagram where the words “Uno Mas” were written which is Spanish for one more, along with James Brown‘s song ‘The Boss’ in the background.

Is Dustin Poirier teasing another return to the octagon? He lost to Islam Makhachev by a fifth-round submission at UFC 302. The 35-year-old Poirier suffered several serious injuries, including a broken nose, broken rib, and a partially torn ACL. He entered the fight already dealing with a rib injury, which affected his ability to grapple effectively.

After the loss, Poirier hinted at possible retirement. The UFC veteran questioned his motivation to continue fighting. The loss to the Dagestani marked a tough moment in his career as it was likely the final title shot of his career. However, this latest update has rekindled fans’ hope to see ‘The Diamond’ in the octagon once more.

Will Dustin Poirier delay retirement for another fight in the octagon?

Dustin Poirier recently discussed his potential return to the UFC and also hinted his interest in fighting Arman Tsarukyan. In an interview with MMA Junkie, Poirier shared that he was still evaluating his future in the sport. He plans to take 30 days to get back in shape before deciding if he’s ready to fight again.

While he’s scheduled for nose surgery in October, he mentioned that he might delay it if an attractive fight opportunity arises. Poirier specifically expressed interest in an interim title fight against Tsarukyan, given that the current champion, Islam Makhachev, is dealing with a hand injury that could keep him sidelined.

I wonder what they’re gonna do with that, is Arman gonna continue to wait for Islam, I don’t know when Islam’s gonna be back... The lightweight division has been so cr*zy over these past years. Yeah for sure [an interim title fight against Tsarukyan] interests me.

He was intrigued by how the UFC would handle the lightweight division. ‘The Diamond’ is open to fighting Tsarukyan if the opportunity aligns. With so many opportunities lined up, it will be interesting to see who Poirier steps in against for a final fight in the octagon.
