The Philadelphia Eagles found themselves in the middle of a major political controversy as fans spotted a few advertisement posters reflecting their alleged support for Kamala Harris for the upcoming presidential elections. A poster displayed throughout the city of Philly depicting what appeared to be presidential candidate Harris wearing the Eagles’ football helmet quickly went viral all-over social media, sparking massive reaction from fans.
The advertisement suggested that the Eagles have made the Vice President of the United States their official presidential candidate against Donald Trump, since the exit of President Joe Biden from candidacy. However, it turns out the ad posters were counterfeited and the franchise clearly stated that they are not endorsing any candidate in the US Presidential elections.

The reason why the scenario of the Eagles endorsing Harris quickly gained attention across social media is because there hasn’t been any team in the history of the NFL who endorsed any political party ahead of the elections. Although the league has taken an NFL Votes initiative, it is nonpartisan and only encourages the citizens to vote.

Fans didn’t hold back from calling Philly’s alleged political biases when their involvement should have been nonpartisan.
One fan wrote, “Man politics in the sports space is always so lame,” while another wrote, “Who thought this was a good idea.” Here are some of the fan reactions:
Fans expressed their displeasure about mixing politics and sports and urged for an official statement from the team. The Eagles quickly clarified their stance on the whole situation, sharing that NFL teams are likely not allowed to endorse any political party and alleged that the ad posters are fake and being used for illegal branding of the presidential candidate and successor of President Biden, Harris.
