After eight long months, India is all set to host its first cricket match post-pandemic. Kicking off from 24 November (today), the Bengal T20 Challenge Cup will mark the return of the nation’s most loved sport. All the necessary preparations for the same has been complete. And the Eden Gardens is all set to welcome back the most loved sport of the country with open arms.

The T20 Challenge will witness six teams fight it out for the trophy over the span of 30 days. The league will feature a double every matchday with triple headers coming in with last nine days of the tournament. The league organised by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) will serve as the stepping stone for the forthcoming domestic tournaments.

COVID-19 rocks the boat

As the governing body geared up to host the league a major setback jeopardised their whole plan. Six personnel, which includes five players, tested positive for COVID-19. Abhimanyu Easwaran and Abhishek Raman of East Bengal, Hrithik Chatterjee from Mohun Bagan, Customs’ Deep Chatterjee and Tapan Memorial all-rounder Roshan Singh are the players infected with the virus.

Unfortunately six people have been found to be Corona positive. These include five players as well and now they have been placed in isolation,” CAB president Avishek Dalmia informed.

The semi-finals of the tournament will be played on December 8 while the final is scheduled on December 9. All measures have been taken under the COVID protocol to protect the stakeholders. The tournament which doesn’t boast a cash prize.
