Edson Barboza signs new six-fight UFC contract with a pay raise: “I’m a 100 percent happy”

UFC’s featherweight fighter, Edson Barboza has finally come to good terms with the UFC as he signs a new contract. From almost breaking away from the promotion to now fighting at UFC 262 Barboza seems to be taking things in the right direction.

Edson Barboza is former lightweight and now is ranked #13 in the featherweight division. Barboza is scheduled to fight Shane Burgos in a featherweight bout at UFC 262. The fight is set to happen on 16th May. Edson is coming off a win against Makwan Amirkhani at UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs. Sandhagen. Barboza was on the brinks off parting ways with the UFC if he had not been offered a fair amount.

Barboza had just one fight left in his contract before signing his new deal. Now the fighter has signed a new contract with 6 fights and a pay raise that he felt he deserved. Just when the fighter was worried about the company taking too long to set him up with a fight, the contract came along with a fight against Burgos too.

Barboza speaking to MMA Junkie did not disclose the exact salary of his new contract but the ranked fighter was paid $79,000 after his loss against Dan Ige. So judging by Edson Barboza’s reaction it seems like he will surely be paid more than the Ige fight.

Edson Barboza also spoke about his fight against Shane Burgos at UFC 262, held at the Toyota Center in Houston. Barboza is looking to thrive in his next bout. “I was happy with this fight because he’s one of the best,” Barboza said. Edson thinks the bout against Shane is going to be war.

“It’s going to be a big war. He’s a great striker; he’s a great fighter. He’s one of the best, and the UFC always gives me the chance to fight against the best guys in the company at 155, and now they give me the chance to fight the best at 145. I really expect a war,” Edson Barboza said.
