“I don’t think it’s my best,” Emma Raducanu proves she isn’t a ‘one-trick pony’ after reaching the quarterfinals in Stuttgart

Raducanu has now won four matches in a row for the first time since she won the 2021 US Open singles title.

Emma Raducanu‘s run at the 2024 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix continues as she makes the quarterfinals. The World No. 303 defeated World No. 31 Linda Noskova 6-0, 6-4 in one and 19 minutes. The win marks the first occasion since Raducanu’s 2021 US Open title that she has won four matches on the trot.

She made her debut on clay at the BJK Cup qualifiers last week, where Great Britain made a comeback to defeat France 3-1. Two of those three wins were brought in by Raducanu, who was made to grind it out in three sets on both occasions. She continued her form in Stuttgart as she reached the quarterfinals.

Following her US Open victory, she has yet to win a title. This gave rise to doubts about her talent and whether the win in New York was a fluke. However, despite the heavy scrutiny, constant changing of coaches, and frequent injuries, the 21-year-old is slowly building her form, and the results are coming for her.

I must say I’m not too surprised. I’ve been working really hard on the training court. I knew it was just a matter of time. Honestly, I don’t think this is my best. I still have a long way to go. I’m really happy the rewards are starting to come on the match court.
Said Emma Raducanu, speaking during her on-court interview.

The Briton talked about just focusing more on her training and shutting off the outside noise. Despite the various challenges, she didn’t compromise on the effort in training, and she believes the rewards are finally coming for her.

You know how it is when you are training day in and day out and you feel the results aren't exactly going your way but it’s never that far away I guess. That's something I've been learning doing the right things every single day and things happen and you don't know how.
Added Emma Raducanu.

With the win, the former World No. 10 is into her first quarter-final since reaching the semis in Seoul in 2022. By reaching the last 8, she also jumped 82 places and is now ranked 221 in the live rankings.

Emma Raducanu believes she has gained a lot of maturity

Raducanu won her first Major as a qualifier and jumped 127 places in the rankings in a fortnight by winning the US Open in 2021. The media attention and pressure rose tremendously, and she certainly found it difficult to manage it with the fast pace of the Tour.

Many experts believed the Briton won the Grand Slam singles title at the wrong point in her career. While she was talented enough to win 10 consecutive matches at the Major, she wasn’t prepared for the things that would follow. But two years later, Raducanu believes she has matured enough to know where her game truly is.

100%. Going through everything I’ve gone through after the US Open and then last year having 8 months out of surgery gives you a different appreciation. There’s nothing quite like playing in front of fans and playing for everyone out here and playing good tennis and building on match by match.
Said Emma Raducanu, when asked if she has matured since winning the US Open.

While she would look to enjoy this short victory run, she will now face possibly her toughest challenge of the season. In the quarterfinals, she will take on two-time defending champ and World No. 1 Iga Swiatek. The Pole has yet to lose a match in Stuttgart in her career and is one of the best players on clay currently.

The duo first met in the quarterfinals in Stuttgart in 2022. The Briton was one of the many players who suffered a defeat against Swiatek during her historic 37-match winning streak.

The duo clashed again in Indian Wells last year, with the three-time French Open winning the clash again to have a 2-0 lead in head-to-head.
